Once again continuing to play more Goemon-wait did I even review the first Famicom game? Huh I guess I didn't. Well I thought it was a good game especially for it's time it was released. Though it had it's problems like some of the platforming was pretty awful and it could get confusing to navigate.
This 2nd game however improves it a bit to make it a better game. First you got some co-op along with one of the more iconic characters introduced to the series, Ebisumaru. The game is mostly the same as you still collect three passes but occasionally you'll just need to beat a boss to reach the end. The game's bosses are sadly really easy. But if you liked the first game you'll enjoy this one more.
Also just want to point out at the end of this game Ebisumaru is like a woman and I'm going to assume this was retconned in later games unless I somehow just never knew this. But yeah good Famicom game in a year with lots of bad games.

My guys at Konami really went and made Backtracking: the Official Video Game
The two major problems I have with this game I have with every non-rpg Goemon, and sometimes I can deal with them and sometimes not: first, perhaps the most bizarre hit detection I’ve ever seen in my life, in which the game bothers to have a top-down isometric view and then seems to respect which plane you are occupying on the fly. Sometimes an attack misses you, but sometimes an enemy flying above your head scores a hit. When you ask “where are the hit boxes?” this game is an obnoxious navel gazing philosophy major who says to you “what even IS a hit box? Who’s to say?” And second, why do I have to be that goddam close to the edge of the screen to progress?
The end of this game posits that Ebisumaru is actually a smokin hot ninja babe who had a curse placed on her by a corrupt daimyo to take the form of a chubby male doofus until someone steals the magic macguffin to make her normal again. I’m venturing a guess that this will not be canon.
