Gobliiins is an adventure game where the player controls a team of three goblins: Oups, Ignatius and Asgard (Hooter, Dwayne, and BoBo in the US release) to find four magic components. A voodoo doll has turned their king Angoulafre mad and by collecting the components they can track down Niak the Wizard, the only one who can put things right. The player needs to solve various puzzles by combining the different skills of the three goblins. It's possible switch between them and control them separately. Most of the puzzles are based on coordinated actions. One can cast powerful but erratic spells, another can collect and use objects, and the last can hit things. Action icons are activated at the bottom of the screen. The game takes in 22 landscapes, each of which has puzzles which must be cleared. The characters have limited energy, which can be sapped by traps.

[EN] I dropped it quickly years ago, when I was testing every point-and-click & abandonwares I was able to find. I relaunched it with curiosity and a fresh perspective. And now I understand : it's a puzzle that leans towards the 'die & retry' style, where death is often unfair. The animations are very cool (although we prefer the somersaults of a successful action to a wizard turning us into ashes), the complementarity of the goblins is effective, and half of the puzzles are well done.
However, the objective of each scene isn't always clear, requiring multiple clicks on all areas of the screen with the 3 characters, hoping to discover an action. Sometimes it needs playing with precise placement and tight timing.
But it was worth it, just for the illustration of the 3 goblins riding that funny shark.

Luke's first ever game! It doesn't hold up well, but it still has some charm. A lot of moon logic, but with patience and a lot of trial and error, you can figure out the way through the game.

Does a lot of things really well. The possibility of death isn't so bad when there's a moderate healthbar to lower first, and it's actually fun to replay the stage perfectly after draining the energy bar down while still experimenting.
I really loved it at first, though it gets a bit tiring to play too many stages at once, and there's a bit of waiting when you need to move multiple character around, even if it is only in one screen. Pathfinding's flawed too, but bearable.
Definitely a lot more modern in feel than pretty much any other game from that time though.
