Marginalia is a first-person horror game that transports you to Kestlebrook, a secluded valley where history becomes enmeshed with a strange present. Weeks ago Eric left. Days ago you got a letter telling you to come to him. Now you're here, but precisely where is here? And better yet, when?

My first DNF of 2022, I'm only writing this to say that what I did play I enjoyed but that the pathing completely lost me after you come to a big clearing. Wandered around to no effect for 15 minutes in the woods without finding the next lamp so decided to call it quits. Would like to give it another go at some stage and actually give it a rating.

Nice atmosphere, some interesting ideas for the story, and I like that the narrative seems to revolve around a gay relationship. Unfortunately, the map is far too large for its own good, meaning that you'll spend far too much time trudging around aimlessly, searching in vain for the next red light needed to advance the story. Shows promise in its earlier stretches, but ultimately just an exercise in tedium.

Two impulses battle it out at the core of Marginalia ; lust for mystery and performative death-drive. You know the beast won't jump out of the shadows yet you dread it nonetheless, you expect a face to manifest itself far in the distance because what else could this panoptic audio landscape summon forth ?

It's impossible to avert your gaze. That's what Connor Sherlock's games are all about : Craving for the end to come whilst wishing to fade inside the screen.

A true haunting.
