Your planet has been overrun by the meanest mutant vegetation ever created in a genetics laboratory. It's taken over buildings, labs, fighter craft... even people! And it's getting bigger... and meaner... with each passing second. But it hasn't taken over you. Now, you're going in on a mission to deliver a POWER STRIKE! You have a special attack ship with the ability to use weapons you free from the ground. The action is hot and heavy. The enemy is coming faster than you could ever believe! So fight hard and fast. If you don't turn the mutated vegetation into a giant tossed salad, they'll turn you into toast!

Was really impressed with how fast and impactful Aleste is. The game is a vertical shmup like every other Aleste game and for the console it’s pretty good. I was really enjoying myself despite the repetitiveness of the game. The locations are varied, the FM sound is pretty nice and the many weapons are fun too. The weapons are on a timer sadly so you’ll need to strategize. I also found weapons 1 and 2 kind of useless but the rest are decent to very good. With all the chaos happening, you’ll need all the help you can get.

No other review seems to mention it but there’s a ton of slowdown in this game especially by the time you get to stage 3. It can be unbearable at times, it’s like I’m playing a Super Famicom shmup. It does hurt the game a little and is mostly why I don’t have it at an 8/10. The game is also not too hard but you will suffer the consequences if a stray bullet gets you. It’s punishing enough but nothing impossible especially with the awesome weapons.

This was a nice shmup to play and it takes a bit to see the game the whole way through. The chaotic nature really sets this one as a very interesting shmup for the era. There are better Aleste games out here but the score average on this page surprises me, it’s a good game and is worth playing if you have a Mark III/Master System.

Very high-energy and dense - there's hardly any breathing room. But a lot of it is repetitive and overly-difficult.

Again, as MS games go, it's a console highlight, but not very remarkable if you have a frame of reference from any other platform. I think every other Compile shmup I played was more fun than this.

This is a very fun early Shoot 'Em Up that I take off the shelf a lot to play. It's probably my favorite for any 8-bit console. It's simple, but also pretty difficult, which is perfect and exactly how I want my games. There's some flicker here, but the great power ups, and really good gameplay more than make up for it. It hasn't aged very well, and there are much better Shoot 'Em Ups out there, but for an 8-bit one, this is damn good.
