Secrets of the Ark: A Broken Sword Game

released on Sep 15, 2006

Secrets of the Ark: A Broken Sword Game returns to its roots by reintroducing point-and-click-based mouse control next to keyboard control, although still relying on a full 3D engine with fixed camera perspectives. A few puzzles are still action-based, but you are now given more time to act in stressful situations, rather than having to make split-second decisions. Next to the regular puzzles, you need to investigate images, texts and clues in the central manuscript as the story progresses.

Shitty graphics, controls, puzzles and dialog.

The fuck is this title? I had to go to the Wikipedia page of the game to see what Broken Sword: The Angel of Death was called in 'Murica just so I could find this page.

Game's a minor disaster and a major disappointment. An empty shell compared to previous installments and so lacking in anything resembling joy or a spark of imagination. Everything feels like it's running on autopilot, from the story to the dialogue to the design of the environments. What a shame.

Abandoning the pretense of action adventure meant to draw in the Tomb Raider crowd, Broken Sword 4 goes back to a more acceptable point & click interface, which helps immensely. Sadly the DNA of the third one is still in there and it shows.

A decent new adventure in the saga, mostly for existing fans of the series.
