My favorite in the Ninja JaJaMaru series so far. The jumping and wall climbing feels weird, but those are the only real complaints I can muster.
It controls alright, looks nice and charming, and the levels are decently designed and short, so it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Cute and nicely animated but a bit too simple and the only real difficulty coming from somewhat awkward movement controls hold it back.

Ninja side scrolling action platformer with a cute cartoon aesthetic. You have a basic attack, jump, and dash that will cause you to roll before doing your attack if you try to attack mid run. You can slowly climb up certain walls and jump off of them and when a meter is charged activate a ninja power like having a clone double that follows you and attacks or a circle of fire you can shoot out of yourself. When you or enemies hit each other it often creates a stunned effect instead of damage and when it happens to enemies you can pick them up and throw them. There are four attack types you unlock over time that can be cycled through with their own ranges and arcs that can be better against certain enemies. Varied stages over the nine levels. Good animations and little details for both you and enemies with some nice backgrounds and good use of color.

Jumping is more difficult to control than it needs to be. While jumping you move slower than your walk speed, the jump is momentum based so you are unable to maneuver once jumping (odd for a ninja game) and jumping from a near standstill gains you almost no distance. In the early stages you aren't too effects but some of the later stages make the imprecise movement controls more difficult to ignore.

Has a two player mode.

Exactly what I thought a SNES Jajamaru game would be for better or worse. Maybe a smidge too long, and what if I told you there’s an ice level with a slippery floor? 😮

I looked at a YouTube playthrough to figure out how to roll through a low hanging wall and I couldn’t help but notice how significantly better the music was than what I was playing. Mine sounded like a demo track, about twenty seconds long, and the same for each stage. Turns out if you go to the options in the main menu there are two choices: enhanced music and enhanced sound effects, which is very odd to me. “Whaddaya want, good tunes or good sounds? You CANNOT have both!” Also sucks that I found out only after getting a little more than halfway through 😔

I've never really cared much for what Jaleco does on this system but this is surprisingly good for what it is. It's part of the Ninja-kun series which kind of has a weird history of its own. Most of the games aren't really that good but this one is a simple but fun platformer that uses mechanics from the original Arcade game. It's also a co-op adventure if you have a friend or even someone who hates you to play with.

That said it might be too simple for some and the game's controls can be a bit finnicky especially on the type of terrain you're on. The game is also shockingly easy to the point I was disappointed with the final boss. I could see this being a game to come back to once and a while. Though it might be too easy for some to care. Maybe I'm being too nice towards the game but I enjoyed my time except for Chapter 3, that one wasn't good. Kind of wish they gave this one another go but I'm unsure if future games tried this type of gameplay. This also recently got a fan translation but you should be fine without it. Give this game a try if it interests you.

Also should point this out incase anyone does play it, make sure you know you can pick up enemies by stunning them and then do up + Y. You won't be able to beat a specific boss if you aren't aware of this mechanic.
