X-Men

released on Dec 31, 1994

X-Men is a sidescrolling beat'em up/platform game, much like its homonymous Mega Drive/ Genesis counterpart. Several X-Men characters are playable throughout the game. The player can choose from two characters from the start, Cyclops and Wolverine, and three Levels are accessible. In the course of the game, the player can unlock five other X-Men, namely Storm, Iceman, Rogue, Nightcrawler and Psylocke.

Bad music, gameplay, controls. What I expected.

2/10 because it wasn't buggy.

Honestly not that bad for Game Gear. There are a surprising amount of playable X-Men in here and they all have their unique powers and stuff, to the point where many of them borderline break the game. Maybe my standards for licensed superhero platformers are too low, but I could see myself getting into this as a kid if my parents had got if for me or something. There are worse things than being somewhat dull but perfectly playable.

X-Men, as seen on the Sega GameGear, is an incredibly mediocre platformer where you choose from a small selection of the titular characters and fight through a handful of stages and, oh yeah, if you come across a buff dude (I believe this is Sebastian Shaw) who just laughs at you for trying to hurt him? The game doesn't tell you this but you have to lure him 40 yards away so he's standing over a flamethrower and then you have to punch him in the balls for 20 minutes until he eventually dies.

I wish I were kidding. That's pretty much how you have to do it.

The character sprites are pretty solid, the music isn't bad, but the stage design is "meh". Worth looking at if you're an X Men fan but there's not much else to see, here.
