Jenny asked me to play this a fair while after i watched her play it. It's cool, you fight the Toohoos by absorbing their bullets, converting them to blocks on a separate grid, then clicking them away. They're constantly introducing new rules building on the groundwork, either changing how the boss interacts with your attacks, throwing special disruptor blocks, making you intentionally take damage, etc. You have to manage two interfaces at once + two vectors of control, it's some really creatively-orchestrated stuff. I also admire that even though this isn't a shmup, your shmup movement fundamentals apply to bullet-weaving and shot-collecting here too. I'm admittedly put a little off by the artist (why's everyone a cannibal with giant love handles?) but I respect the hustle. More solo devs ought to make self-indulgent stuff like this.

I would like this more if it had a little less fat to chew and anything resembling a soundtrack - like, I'm not even a Touhou fan, but isn't half the appeal of this series the classical/rock fusion music? What's with the babies'-first-tonka-truck-greg-heffley-stepping-forward-famitracker-ass sludge here?

Very cute Touhou fangame by an artist I follow on Twitter (@WOAH_MAAAN). The blend of puzzle gameplay and shmup gameplay is pretty neat, though frequently overwhelming and a hassle on setups other than keys and a mouse (such as on a laptop with a trackpad, or a controller). It also feels like a bit of a one-trick pony towards the end, more of a concept for a Game Jam than a 3-5 hour game. Music could've been a bit better too maybe, or included more tracks.

Predictably, the real star of the show is the art and presentation. Love it to death. Love watching these goofballs interact, same goes for the real Touhou games. My brain is fried for the toohoos at the moment and I'll probably praise most things involving them, but it is genuinely fun writing and really nice art all bias aside.

Overall, pretty decent. There are things I could do without or see improved, but from the looks of it this was a one-man effort, a pretty impressive one at that. Not their first either, so maybe I should check those out soon. Should check out more Touhou fangames as well.

Would recommend giving this a shot! It's free!

test2

Update 2/11/24 - I forgot about this website, maybe I'll start using it. Sorry for having one of the few reviews on this game be "test2" for so long.

This game is pretty sick! Really enjoy the two-screen action as you both manage a bullet hell and block puzzle at the same time. The game keeps giving you new gimmicks too, keeping things constantly changing. You've oftentimes gotta change up your playstyle with each new battle. This game isn't your average cut of meat, it's something!

The game has occasional difficulty bumps, and the writing is... in the game. It's not perfect or earth-shattering, but I enjoyed my time with this one!
