Fallout 3 is lacking. Even in comparison to Oblivion, a game from 2006 it feels like Fallout 3 doesn't have substance to it's story or quests. As an RPG Fallout 3 fails in almost every way lacking meaningful skill checks and role playing elements. The gameplay is remarkably mediocre and suffers a lot from being the first entry in the Bethesda Fallout series, missing the tweaks that makes New Vegas fun and 4 bearable. The only decent DLC might be Operation Anchorage with it's interesting setting and different presentation of the gameplay, though somewhat lacking in execution and length. The rest of the DLC ranges from awful to mediocre. Overall the game is playable and you can waste a not insignificant amount of time playing it, but it just doesn't really do anything particularly well.
