conclusive act for the alan wake 1 experience or at least thats what I think should I play American nightmare? ionno

anyho

wasn't a fan of the first dlc and am not a fan of this dlc it picks up where the first one left off and still plays on those chords: asset reuse same gameplay same enemies same story beats and somehow they also decided it was a good idea to implement platforming ??? youre joking

so again I probably said everything I wanted to say in the other dlc part because this is basically just a continuation of that one soooo yeah it's still mid I sure didn't want to play more Alan wake but I guess I'm just trying to cover all the bases before AW2

the story conclusion is still pretty confusing I thought these additional contents were gonna give some kind of explanation but to this moment I have no idea how the dark place and the normal world connect if Alan is actually mentally ill or its just about external influences where the fuck is the wife of this man and are the flashbacks he experience real events or just schizophrenia induced

I'm confused but I guess this is a vibes first game or at least that's what I felt

ughhhhhh so anyway can finally conclude the first games exploration its still not as good as I wanted it to be but I'm glad I played it before getting my hands on the second game

sassy barry slays

fiquei preso na rola gigante pqp kkkk lá eeeele

Another DLC that's just a recycling of the base game's assets.

This time with bad platforming!

still like this one more than the base game, but it has an odd tendency of hinting towards more nuance to alan's character then shutting that down. still some really cool setpieces here, i love the ferris-wheel-like one in the middle.

A introspecção de Alan Wake, incrível.

Comparing the previous DLC at least this one was fun. Using the "words" is an interesting mechanic that fits the narrative. Also story tidbits here are more interesting too. I liked environments and ending is intriguing. Overall, this one is good enough to play while "The Signal" was a literal chore to get through.

Final del primer Alan Wake. Mucho mejor este primer DLC que el primero, más clamado. En general, un gran juego.

The DLC makes up for the lackluster endgame of the main game

This was better than the first DLC but not by a huge margin. The combat felt more fun this time around with more interesting use of the games mechanics, but for some reason they had a platforming section towards the beginning? It's just kind of weird because the movement in this game doesn't really lend well to a platforming challenge. The story as a whole is more interesting yet still pretty light, all it really says is Alan Wake is trying to escape from the Dark Place which isn't that hard to figure out from the base game.

A little weaker than The Signal, I think. The setpieces are more ambitious but also jankier, and the plot is mainly just tying up loose ends as all the most interesting elements were pretty effectively established by the end of The Signal. The segment where you clear out rocks and use the lights to just decimate the Taken is cool but it's unfortunately immediately followed by an AWFUL boss fight. If you feel the need to put an unlimited supply of ammo in your boss arena you've probably fucked up. Still, not a bad time overall and provides a pretty satisfying end to the first entry in Alan Wake's story.

A good closure if you didnt know how long the sequel would take, but for this remaster its ok.
Pretty interesting use again for the light words in combat.

oh actually this DLC wasn't so bad, it goes to show that The Signal was Sam Lake's way of asking how much he could torture the player and being able to get away with it (and also showing that Alan's VA CAN actually act)

bem melhor que a primeira mas sinceramente poderiam ter botado oq acontece nela no final do jogo normal msm

Less combat focused than the previous part of the DLC but all the more creative. It also offers some pretty great set pieces and interactions.

If you’re still on the fence about playing, the DLCs are not exactly life-changing, but I still wouldn’t wanna miss out on them before playing AW2.

Mechanically more creative than the first DLC, "The Signal", and a bit more meaty story-wise. A nice conclusion to the events of the base game.

Slightly better than The Signal but still nowhere near as good as the base game.
The level design is more interesting, leaning into the surreal and dreamlike aspect of the dark place. The combat isn't as frustrating, with some parts that feel more puzzle like where you have to resort to the environment, like exploding barrels and fireworks. Then there is weirdly some sort of platforming? Which is an awful choice with how clunky the movement can be.
But again, the biggest letdown for me is it doesn't really add anything new to the plot. We knew since the ending of the game Alan was stuck in the dark place writing a new novel, and the whole journey throughout these 2 dlcs is just him navigating the dark place to write said novel, ending pretty much in the same place we left him in the base game. I didn't expect a major breakthrough as these are specials and they will save that for the sequel but still, I expected at least some new plot points or information about Thomas Zane or something? The whole thing feels pointless.

Better than the first DLC but let down by some tedious platforming, however some nice story telling and interesting added details to the overall narrative that makes both DLCs pretty much essential for their plots alone.

My expectations were 3000 feet beneath the floor after the first DLC, and The Writer at least gets back up to floor level, but not an inch higher. I admire the fact that they tried so many new things here instead of just making it another combat gauntlet, but just because they were new doesn't necessarily mean they were successful. A big chunk at the beginning was a platforming section, and I think that's all I really needed to see to know this still wasn't gonna be that great. I will say that the final fight was kinda neat, and I like the place the story ended up, but honestly I think I could've skipped both of these and not been confused at all. Just completely inessential, even if it's a bit more palatable.

The better off the two DLC's. I do love how they both are warped distorted and incoherent versions of areas we've seen.

Makes me more excited for the second game.

The Writer - Honestly, one of my favourite parts of the game. The intuitive mechanics of shining on words from the manuscript was fascinating. It also got gut-wrenching at times, especially with the fake conversation with Alice and the final confrontation with Barry. The internal conflict throughout the episode completely nails the psychological thriller aspects of the game that I had come to love, too. I also really liked Zane's role, it created a cyclical structure similar to the beginning of the game. Lastly, the ending was the perfect cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see how Wake's journey continues in AW2, whether he returns to the real world or not.

Another perfectly okay DLC. Some of the more interesting setpieces in any Alan Wake 1 content, but the combat is stretched to its limits here. Still really dig the words mechanic and hope something like it makes it into AW2. Starting that tonight.

Wayyyyy better than The Signal. With a cool boss fight, a decent plot and character interactions, and an ending that actual means something in the end, this comes out being a decent DLC episode. Still really nothing special though.

Definitely the better of the two DLCs

More creativity here in the level design which doesn’t mostly consist of reused areas from the main game this time. The exploding words mechanic is a much bigger and more fleshed out aspect of the gameplay, enemy spam isn’t as bad, and there’s more interesting stuff going on story wise. Alan’s VA also gives a much better performance in these DLCs than in the main game too which is nice

Everything wrong with the "Signal" DLC was fixed. No stupid fighting, no janky enemies, just a normal Alan Wake level lol. Just wayyy too short (then again it's just a part 2 of the shit show of "the Signal")

Provided the closure I needed for the game. I enjoyed how the environment was used within the episode.
