It is essentially infinite and fully customizable Guitar Hero. You can import all songs used in any version of Guitar Hero or Rock Band and play them on any difficulty, as well as user submitted charts of just about any song you can think of. User submitted songs are usually only submitted with expert difficulty, so that's a bummer if you're not already godlike at the game, but the fact that you can pick and choose your favorite tracks from the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games and have them all in one neat, convenient package makes this the ideal way to play rhythm games featuring western rock/metal music with a guitar controller. It lacks the aesthetics and the customizable playable characters of the core Guitar Hero games, but its sheer accessibility more than makes up for that.

It's a great idea, but a couple things are a bit disappointing to me. I only have a RB4 guitar controller for the ps4, and that loses some functionality inherently. Not the game's fault, but still disappointing that some of the fun functions of the game are limited. But I can see past it and map an alternate way to use the whammy and tilt functions. It's also a bit hard to find large packs of songs I personally am interested in, since it's a loose collection of google drive folders. Of course, also not much the devs can do, so I don't hold it against em. I do also wish it had pre-packaged background screens instead of requiring you to install them separately. Other than that, all of the hard work put into it is well-appreciated so I can have a relatively simpler way to play RB on the PC.

This is an open-source project attempting to replicate both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises for the PC. It excels in this, and you pretty much have access to all the songs you want since you can just download them. You might have to dig a bit since I won't tell you how in this review. :)

This would be the definitive music game, but there is one major problem that renders it all but unplayable for most people: There is a serious lack of compatible controllers. A simple Rock Band guitar isn't enough--you also need adapters, and specific kinds of guitars in order to play it. For drums, you also need extremely rare/expensive adapters or an equally expensive e-drum kit. If you already have one, it is plug and play for some kits which is very nice. Still, it'll cost you about $150 if I remember correctly.

Hopefully the new Rock Band peripherals releasing in 2024 will give people an accessible entry point for this definitive rendition of beloved rhythm game franchises. If they do, this will likely be 5 stars.
