I'm not convinced by the "color the world with fun~!" snake oil De Blob is selling me!!! You can paint this totally depersonalized metropolitan hellscape with as many garish colors as u want and it will still be a PANOPTIC BIOME OF CORPORATE SUBMISSION AND CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!! De Blob as the neoliberal compromise candidate in contrast 2 Jet Set Radio's radical reclamation of the urban landscape as a communal artspace 4 anticarceral revolt!!!!!!!!!!! more like de COP!!!! go open a frozen yogurt store in a disenfranchised community u slimy gentrifying FREAK!

I don't know why but this game right here i love unconditionally, more than i should.

The story while simplistic (We are only stopping the bad guy) is loaded with fun, charm and wit throughout the cutscenes and character interactions and is also surprisingly deep for a game like this, touching on themes such as Slavery, communism, Human Trafficking, Death, slavery, fascists and racism all without no dialogue. I'm not even joking, all of these themes are shown to us in the game which i respect as it shows that Kids Games and Platformers can cover all sorts of topics.

Gameplay wise, De Blob is very Simple, you paint! That's the game. It's probably it's biggest strength and weakness to be honest, it's simplicity. It's a game that can be enjoyed due to it's simplistic nature of painting things but i can see why it doesn't stick for everyone due to being a bit too simple and not really having much variety outside of a few new enemies and invincibility power-ups. However, in my opinion De Blob manages to be very fun throughout due to it's fun missions, level design and presentation. You're given 4 mission types by the 4 main characters, Prof wants you to destroy a landmark, Arty (Your most frequent mission bringer) wants you to paint certain landscapes with certain colours, Zip wants you to collect a few orbs in a small time limit and Bif focuses on Simplistic yet fun combat with the many Inky enemies that the game throws at you. All of these combined with some of the most simple yet fun levels I've played in a platformer due to feeling like you're taking back the radiant City of Chroma City one "step" (i don't know what to call Blob's movement lol, i guess roll would work, anyway) at a time using powers such as your own Blobness, the helpers in the Colour Underground and the Transformers, while initially i wasn't a fan of the same level themes, it slightly grew on me due to feeling like you're taking back a City that feels lived in, you're going through places such as a Hotel, Dam, A Docklands, A National Garden and more which in my opinion while i would rather have a bigger variety of stages each unique, having this amount of worldbuilding is an admirable and great effort that i haven't seen much in mainstream Platformers in the 2000's other than Super Mario Sunshine. You also have a variety of things to do in the game such as earning either a Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal in each stage, painting everything including billboards, Blimps and Trees, Opening Each Gate to progress, playing each mission, liberating every single Raydian in an stage and completing the bonus levels, which are unlocked by the rank you have obtained. The Shorter and more focused bonus levels can be fun but some of them can feel like the other acts from Sonic Colours and can be a bit troublesome due to Blob's heavy movement, though i did complete every single one of them because i want more De Blob lol, but doing all of these will give you some extra content including concept art, bonus videos, awards etc. Final thing i want to note for the Gameplay that i played the Wii version of De Blob which has Motion Controls, while i normally like motion controls these ones do feel a bit tacked one, either you having to shake to defeat enemies or to reestablish a landmark i don't mind these but one i can't stand jumping with the with the Wiimote, it's some unresponsive and gets tiring fast due to the Long Levels, speaking of the long levels, while i don't mind them being longer, i do wish there was saving available after each mission or at least after opening each gate or

Finally, the presentation of this game is Steller, the music is amazing each track is memorable, unique and are overall bops to listen too, highlights being Blissful, Unstoppable and Defiant, and the graphics are pretty good for the Wii being at a crispy smooth 60fps with a unique and stylised look for everything not really seen in many platformers before.

Overall, De Blob is simple, fun and unique and while it has many shortcomings, it does the 3 things i mentioned so well that it's a game i recommend to anyone at all ages.

de Blob looked so cool as a kid, and I can happily say the concept still holds up in terms of its coolness factor, just romping around these worlds stripped of color and restoring life around you. The visuals looked stunning back then and even by today's standards I'd say they look pretty good, and the soundtrack is definitely a bop. Unfortunately, the gameplay is more or less a collectathon taken to an abnormal extreme; there's so much you need to color, plenty of collectibles to grab, and a lot of side missions that all feel the same (color all these buildings a certain color, go through all these checkpoints in the time limit, splat some enemies, etc). Also, the levels take forever to complete; each level can take a solid 20-30 minutes if you're trying to color everything, collect everything, and finish all the side missions, and that's not even including the end-game replays where you'll need to complete similar objectives just with slightly different constraints. I wish I could say the movement was more satisfying too, but unfortunately Blob just kind of squishes around at a moderate speed with a floaty but not always satisfying or useful jump; it's definitely kind of difficult chaining together successful wall jumps across buildings without losing too much height, and jumping onto the tops of buildings isn't perfect since Blob tends to just stick to the walls of the buildings instead of ascending the building. It's always a little sad to see that some games don't hold up too well to modern scrutiny, and I don't have the patience to go through the pretty tedious levels right now when there are a lot of other classics from the 2000s I want to get to. That said, from the little that I've played of de Blob 2, it does appear to greatly improve in its level design, and I am looking forward to giving that another shot sooner than later.

been rewatching lots of community recently w my boyfriend who never watched it lmao. grew up watching that shit and rlly loving it and then became an adult and was like hold on that show kind of sucked and dan harmon is a weird fucking dude. but id be lying if this rewatch wasn’t rlly like rewarding?? like it’s still def smth that thinks it smarter than it is and hit me at a time in my life where I thought I was smarter than I was but it’s also like frequently rlly funny and weird in how it tackles genre but still feels ultimately like the same show it started out as/fits into the mold of corporate nbc comedies. kind of sucks a lot of the time kind of incredibly sexist and showcases more of harmon’s weird and problematic writing than rick and morty ever does but also i think donald glover and gillian jacobs are so unbelievably talented. idk been thinking of this game a lot bc abed wears multiple de blob shirts in the third(?) season which is rlly funny and kind of places that series perfectly in the early 2010s, costume design in the show kind of goes hard. played one of these de blob games on my ds while camping in my family’s backyard as a child, also played whatever tony hawk game had a motion sensing cart you put in the gba slot, was very cool. i rlly love the 00s

Reject Capitalism. Eat the Rich. Embrace Socialism. This games soundtrack is also a fucking bop.

"hey dude what if we made a coloring book but it was a game"
It's a very good concept, however I think the game went just a little long. I'd say 2 or 3 stages less would've done it better, because after long enough the gameplay does get a bit stale. The only way they really change it up between levels is by making it more difficult, which isn't really the appeal of the game. Kind of similar to Sonic in that regard.
I have no real issues with the game aside from the ink mechanic. Getting ink'd instantly throws off your vibe and sets you into a fast search for water. If there's no water nearby (or the game's routing system has you on a fountain that's horizontally near you but vertically too high to reach) you're screwed. It's a really weird 1 hit kill mechanic

de Blob (2008)... where do I begin. This game has changed my perspective on life in a philosophical way. It has taught me to think smarter, and to enjoy life everyday like it's my last. This game challenges your intelligence on the world and makes you rethink your stance on society as a whole. In terms of gameplay, de Blob doesn't disappoint. The game is not dark Souls hard, but it isn't Sonic Forces easy either. This is a game that can be enjoyed by anyone. It also pioneered the "splat-type" gameplay seen in more recent titles like Splatoon. The story is a deep social-commentary on fixing things that are broken. de Blob goes around an emply, colorless world, and spreads color to make the city and scenery pop by the end of each level. He's almost like a color Santa Claus. In conclusion, de Blob is a masterpiece created by the finest of developers. It's worthy of the title "greatest game of all time", up there with the likes of Halo 3, Super Mario 64, and A Link to the Past. Everyone and their grandmother should play this at least once, it is truly an unforgettable experience that will live on in gaming history as one of the greats. 7/10 too political.

Blissful is one is the most beautiful songs i've heard in a video game. Easily in my top 5 favorite sounds pieces, not even kidding it's that good. Also the fact that your color changes the tempo of the music is such a cool detail. This isn't about the game, but the music is absolutely incredible. So underrated.

Top 50 Favorites: #23

Bring back puzzle-platformers as major tentpole releases! A fantastic, fun-loving, seriously charismatic game just bursting at the seams with vibrancy and inventiveness. The type of experience that just leaves a big, fat grin slapped across your face the entire time - granted some of its strict completionist elements (wtf is up with the awful level replay system as it relates to collectibles resetting?) can be frustrating, but as someone obsessed with those sorts of elements I didn't mind much (especially when the control system is this satisfying). The way the music interacts with how you're playing? Chef's kiss. The adorable fake language the characters speak? Chef's kiss. The gorgeous, gorgeous color palette? Chef's kiss. The wonderful and always-evolving level designs that reward exploration to the highest degree? Well, you already know what I'm going to say. Even the story here is really cute and funny, just a great time all around.

This is one of my favourite kinds of games, where you go round bringing life to the world and you see the change you're making. Just like Katamari Damacy, all this needs is a big sprawling open-world for me to be absolutely hooked.

What I thought this game was about looking at the cover: cheeky blob gets into all sorts of wAaAaCkY mischief!

What it's really about: Underground group overthrow fascist government and gentrification.

Too bad the game gets kinda exhausting the longer it goes on.

This is one of the first games that I ever beat completely on my own. I loved my experience with this game. The concept was already really cool but the gameplay itself was also executed very well. Blob controls well and the game is cute. Has a special place in my heart

this game is just like 1984

Fun for the first half hour but then each level keeps going and going and going...until you've spent hours collecting stuff and the level exit has been sat waiting for you the whole time.

Back when I originally had this on the Wii, I did really like the aesthetic of painting everything different colours while jazzy music plays in the background, but then Splatoon did it so much better that now I can't go back to this.

A great example of a game with far too much content for each level, resulting in collectible hell. It therefore manages to be the polar opposite of Spirit of the North.

I got so mad at de Blob (kids game) that I screamed out loud

This game is ridiculously creative in its concept. Its story isn't special, but is serviceable and quite charming. The music is absolutely amazing. And to top it all off, I got this vibe from the game's graphical style that reminded me of 3D Canadian cartoons from the early 2010's that I'd catch an episode of here and there. I don't know how to really explain it, but it was a very uncanny feeling and really made me happy.

However, the gameplay is novel but uninteresting, and the game turns into a slog quickly. This game's levels are pretty long normally doing the bare minimum, taking at least 20-30 minutes. That's not a problem in and of itself. I've played games with levels that are longer and loved them. However, the length of these levels are exacerbated by a slow movement speed, long, segmented level design, and the amount of stuff to do.

The speed of Blob speaks for itself. The guy moves really slow, and his jumps are floaty and deceptively low. It makes movement kind of a chore and artificially lengthens stages. The segmented level design makes levels feel stretched out when they could honestly be more compact.

Then there's the amount of stuff to do. The goal of each level is to amass points to get through gates to beat a level under a time limit. When boiled down to that, it sounds a lot like Katamari. However, Katamari was much more streamlined. You roll up small stuff to roll up big stuff. It's really simple. In de Blob, you have to paint a level, but also liberate Graydians, beat enemies, paint certain sections of the map, and the biggest offender, the side quests. There's 4 kinds: ones where you race to a spot, ones where you beat up enemies, ones where you restore landmarks, and my least favorite ones, the ones where you paint specific buildings certain colors. The side quests are ridiculously repetitive and stages have dozens of them. Most of this is pointless though, as point requirements are very low and time is very lenient, so lots of stuff can be avoided, but it might not due to the relative ease of everything. Its gameplay loop becomes a fluffed up and needlessly complicated Katamari that ironically had some color and soul sapped from it.

It's a shame the game's levels made me quit, because the rest of the game's amazing imo and left a smile on my face. However, this game saps me every time I try to play it nowadays, so I just can't beat it.

fantastic music, great art and great presentation just simply cannot save awful pacing and repetitive gameplay loops.

i dropped it when i realized i was taking up to an hour per every main level and still not getting 100% on them.

You stupid fucking idiot why the fuck are you even here reading this review when you could be playing de Blob (2008) for Windows PC/Playstation 4/iOS/Nintendo Wii/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch. This game is the peak of the video game industry and nothing will ever top it. Fuck you play de blob now

why does this game have nazis in it?

I got this game at the same time as I bought Okami. You can imagine which game I thought was better.

You know unironically, this game is more relevant than it was back when it was released.

This game is great until you decide to 100% it

Before Splatoon, there was de Blob, and before that, there was another game about coloring I don't know. De Blob is one of those no thoughts head empty kind of games where you let the flow of it take you along as you paint the city in all kinds of colors and bring life back to it. I enjoyed my time with it but for completionists, I think they should pass on it, it takes hours just to do everything and the game doesn't do a good job of showing you what things you missed. It's more of a hassle to get 100% than it is fun.

I remember not being able to sleep at night, so i turned the telly on and saw the nighttime adverts for this on Jetix.

This game has such an awesome concept and gameplay loop, I wish the Wii version didn't make you shake the remote to jump tho
