NES port it's alright, but inferior to Arcade's. Graphics are worse, there are no cutscenes explaining enemies' patterns, and they added another possible jump trajectory if you press it in a specific time during Mario physics, so if you are used to Arcade version, you will have some trouble with this.

i played this with a friend and we eventually stopped cooperating and ended up having a fight.

Like og Donkey Kong, it's inferior to the arcade original one. It's alright to discover it for historical purposes. Consider the game beat after stage 8.

Extremely repetitive (only three spawn patterns) and offers little optimisation, as vertical spaces are very tight. On the other hand, the horizontal movement in jumping is very weak, so it is difficult to move precisely.

It's funny how Mario looks more like Sewer Water in Super Mario Bros than in this game.

Just simple fun. Everyone says that the arcade version is better. I never played it, but I agree.

This game is truly fantastic

Played on a whim and had a good amount of fun with! I just did 23 phases since I read up that the game only had about 22 unique ones throughout, and it was cool seeing Mario's first debut kicking Koopas to the curb in the sewers. I know people don't like the fact you can't change direction midjump in this game, which was definitely due to this being one of their first games, but I personally like the challenge. It makes having to time your jumps a lot more tougher but rewarding as well, giving the game more of a skill ceiling and pushing you to improve. It was also cool seeing how the Mario Bros. stage in Smash references this one to the letter, I have more respect for it now (even if I still don't like it in that game). All in all a fun short time.

It's simple fun, straight to the action, but you need to unplug the "Mario" part of your brain. Most people I played with took a bit of time to figure out you're not supposed to jump on the enemy, but under them.

Play as Mario and Luigi and beat up turtles and crabs. It’s fine but gets repetitive.

Had a lot of fun trying to set high scores with this at the arcade. I don't think it would be as fun single-player, and the jump physics take a bit to get used to.

Horrible, terrible, awful controls. Don't play this version unless you want to feel cheated.

This is an incredibly addictive and incredibly fun arcade game that paved the way for super Mario bros. This works a lot better for me than Donkey Kong while still retaining the Mario feel. I cannot wait to play some of the updated versions of this in later games/remakes.

Edit: Retroactively knocking this down a little because of how good the arcade version of the game is, which is the version you should play

MARIO STOP GETTING GREASE ON YOUR SHOES

Até que não envelheceu tão mal.

miracle that this game sprouted such a succesful franchise this game isnt very good lol

Nothing much I can write about it here.

Just some old arcade game and part of Super Mario's history. Nothing to special though and if you missed out on this one, you didn't really miss anything.

Extra star for heritage value but imagine going to the arcade in 1983 and playing this instead of Spy Hunter?

Was pretty fun up until the crabs : (

Mario Bros. is an interesting arcade game and important to video game history, but has little staying power today.

Crazy how this spawned one of gaming's most iconic franchises given how meh its first entry was.

I spent HOURS MINUTES of my life stomping...
