Monster hunter at its finest. If you have a band of friends to play with this is pretty much some of the most fun you can have. The endgame seems endless, the amount of set customization is almost overwhelming, and there's so, so many monsters. The only issues are the console it's on is garbage, and not having a circle pad pro will destroy the center of your hands. Otherwise, the best in the series.
The best entry in the series, hands-down. The huge roster of monsters, the innumerous cool weapon and armor designs, the many varied locations, and the super fun gameplay makes this the most solid entry in the entire Monster Hunter franchise. By the time I finally stopped playing, I had put 700 hours into it.
YEAH IT'S JANK
YEAH IT'S CRUSTY
but the first mh game to introduce verticality was also MY first introduction to the series, and I'm nostalgic as hell for it. something about that high gravity, those crunchy textures with a high framerate, and the feel of the DS in my hand (which kinda makes it hard to fight as well as with a ps4 controller) just feels right to me.

The best MH I've played, it struct the perfect balance between grinding and rewards, on top of also having an actual story, and an interesting one at that (!!!). I loved almost all the new monster designs introduced, and the G-Rank quests were all very fun. The verticality introduced in this entry set the standard for all the next Monster Hunter games and I love it.
The guilds were always full of people from all over the world bonding with emotes before a hunt regardless of language, and still was the best multiplayer experience I've had.
I just wish the first area wasn't so hard on the eyes sometimes.

Don't sleep on this game; it's peak humanity.
See Monster Hunter as a series is (it's actually was) a lot more meaningful and deep than just an epic game to sink all your time into like a lunatic.
Thematically speaking MH4U is the indomitable human spirit stepping in when huge dragon gods think they are better.
Gameplay becomes narrative. MH4 introduces ledges and more verticality to the level design. We can now topple gods to the ground. Literally the end stages of the game have most fights be in a human settlement that these monsters will not stop attacking.
And you know what? We use the human mind to shoot them down.
Enter peak fiction.

Two new weapons, the Magalas, Gogmazios and a fantastic low rank story. This was a really fun one, I have a lot of good memories with it. Going to all the villages was a great set up, I really love the showdown with Shagaru Magala. The insects were also fantastic monsters. Frenzy was good, apex was awful, and the 140 monsters were usually too much but otherwise I actually really loved the end game.
the best monster hunter game in the entire series. (yes even world+rise)
while i didn't enjoy mh3u enough to play through g-rank, mh4u completely clicked with me and 800hrs later made me into a mh fanatic. if you tried other monster hunter games and feel like they lack direction or you feel lost like i did, this is the one to play.

this was my introduction to mh which is such a good spot to start i think. i will say that i barely got started when i switched over to generations, i barely got to hr 7 before i moved on. that being said i absolutely loved what i played and despite the low hr i spent a lot of time playing with friends doing everything multiple times, it was fun
