as a pokemystery dungeon superfan, it's mid, i fear.
i appreciate that they tried to have some semblance of an art style, giving it almost like a children's storybook-like quality, but the original graphics are still superior. pixel art is just amazing.
this is a "remake" that doesn't add or change a single thing aside from the art style, which goes to show how fucking QUALITY the original games are, but also makes it feel kind of soulless and empty-- just a shallow cash grab. there was no reason for this game to have been made when they could have (and, i'd argue, should have) just ported the originals.
i paid full price for this game because, again, superfan, but was very promptly disappointed. this game isn't worth $60. it's not even worth 1/3rd of that. just emulate the originals for free.

Honestly, this may be the best rework of the original Red Rescue Team to date... Considering there are a few. While the game is a hell of a lot easier then the original, it's kept most of the charm the original had. The only thing missing were the "Friend Zones" that you could actually visit and walk around in being exchanged for simple menus... But that's a small complaint really. I'd say pick this one up if you want to replay the original!
Good remake, arguably better than the original, but I have to take a point off because I ran into serious epileptic flashing bugs during my playthrough that I'm not even sure I can share footage of without getting this review taken down, and the game has never received a patch since these happened. It sucks because I really want to give this game a higher score but I can't when this problem still exists.
my 2nd pokemon mystery dungeon game i've played ever with explorers of sky being my 1st introduction to the spinoff series as a kid and I am very happy to say it still is just as deceptively challenging as ever. it looks like it would easier, but even with all the new qol stuff and mechanics from other pmd games added it is still a good, challenging game as ever. while the story didn't impress me as much as sky did i LOVE the gameplay as ever with the pmd spinoff series so I can overlook the plot. by the time im writing this review i'll definitely be doing the post game cause I missed out on sky's postgame as a kid. overall pmd still got it and i hope the success of this game gets us a pmd 2 remake and a new game (copium)
I didnt get far in but it seems like a well-done remake. The visuals are great, nice QoL changes to gameplay, but the soundtrack is lacking compared to the original.
Unfortunately I have some kind of anxiety with this game because of losing all your items when you die(which hasn’t changed from the original). It gets in the way of me enjoying the game, so I’ll probably put it down for a while.

Having played the original two PMD games on Nintendo DS, it was fun coming back to re-explore the original in a new way. The reimagining of the art direction is inspiring, however some noticeable presentation systems were cut (team bases). If you're a fan of the original, you will enjoy this game. Just don't expect too much more passed that.
[Main Story]
**
I never got to play the original but this remake is fantastic in my opinion, as it brings together all the pokémons that went to the GBA and NDS versions into one. Where it tells a story that aroused my interest, having several places to explore being main or secondary throughout the game in order to evolve the rank of our rescue team that we can create in the game but also of our members who are part of it. The possibility that the game gives to choose which pokémon we want to be without being dependent on the quiz is fantastic. Even after finishing the main story of the game, the post game that the game offers seems to be endless in a good way. If you like the Rogue-like genre, I think you’ll like this game.

so i decided to pick this game back up because its been months sense I played it and yeah its really fun
out of all the mystery dungeon games i've played ( Exploers of sky, Super and this ) this is defintally my second favorite ( exploers was my first so i have alot of nostaligia for it ) but I really like the visiuals of this game i like how you can switch which pokemon you're playing as i like that you can have more then 4 party memebrs under specfic circustances i love the addition of the rainbow gummi expanding apon the gummi mechanic over all a very solid mystery dungeon game

All of what I'll say should apply to Blue and Red Rescue Team as well, since this game only improved on those in my opinion, and didn't change anything too significantly. The Rescue Team games are very good. It's a different take on Pokemon, which the series needs. These games are Roguelikes, and are really fun ones at that. The artstyle for Rescue Team DX in particular is really beautiful and adds some cool things such as the Fairy-type, new Pokemon, and Mega Evolution. And the story! Utterly heartbreaking, and surprisingly good for a Pokemon game.
I do think nostalgia has slightly overrated this game a bit. It does get repetitive at times, and I never really was a fan of the hunger mechanic in dungeons. Other roguelikes don't boot you out of dungeons prematurely but PMD feels the need to. People forget how long some of the later dungeons are too, making them feel really grueling and honestly, boring. Those dungeons make me refrain from replaying this.
Great games though.
Score: 86

Ah, yes, the funny furry isekai game.
I've had history with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team in the past - by which I mean I played a used GBA cartridge of the original that had already made it through the first half of the game. I then heard about this remake a few years back, bought it day one, put so many hours into the earlygame...and then proceeded to not touch the game again for a few years.
And now that I've finished what I'd previously started, I do appreciate the quality of life improvements (better balance with this game's starter Pokémon, etc.) that this remake offers.
The presentation - putting aside my bias for pixel art - is undoubtably better than the original. I do like the way the game manages to make the 3D models look like hand-drawn images. Though, I do miss the camps being fully explorable...
The gameplay...is the same dungeon-crawler gameplay Spike Chunsoft has executed well for the past two decades by the time of this game's release. I've no idea what else to say about it, other than my observation about how few people are here specifically for the gameplay.
Shelved because I intend to return at a later date to do the postgame quests, but I really enjoyed the main story so far!
Also, the base remodeling story-beat was more of a non-sequitur than I'd remembered it being.
Also also, the protag musta had a pretty shitty life as a human if they willingly allowed the erasure of their previous memories.
