It's really not as terrible as everyone says it is. Is it a good game? No, but it's not awful either. It's a play once and never again affair but it kept me entertained for a minute or two back in the day.

I actually think the gameplay is kinda sorta fun. The music style is really not good, they overdo certain samples that just make it annoying to listen to compared to 'real' Genesis style Sonic music.

boring and lame. not as offensive to me as it is to everyone else, but i can see why. a husk of a franchise. but not the worst thing in the world. their biggest mistake was naming it sonic 4, shouldve been sonic lite or something so theres no expectations

devoid of any fun, creativity, originality or anything of value, music ranges from forgettable to ear bleeding, graphics look like an early psp game, feels like shit to play and has less content than any other 2D sonic game. i dont think i will ever hate another game more
At first, I loved this one. The homing attack was and still is a welcome addition to the gameplay and the way it's utilized in the levels creates some fun situations. However, that final stage. There were a few dumb stages prior to that final one, and part of that final stage is still pretty fun, but lord have mercy I absolutely HATE the final boss (For the same reasons I hate the sonic 2 final boss). I really hope Episodes Metal & II of this game are better than what I went through here.

For a 2D sonic this game really wasn't that bad, i will even say its an ok game back in the day but i can't recall any new features so it really didn't leave any impression at all on me. Its still fine to play to just finish it once and forget it.

just skip to episode 2 and play as metal sonic if you really want to experience a marginally better version of what this game has to offer. but even then, that aint great either
