I dont know. It is probably the best option for a kart racing game on the PS1 but it did not amuse me in the same way as Mario Kart. Despite having a "story mode" that entertains for quite some time, things like the boring selection of characters disappointed me a lot.

The first video game I ever played as a child when I was 3 years old and still my favorite "kart-racer" to this day. Crash Team Racing was an incredibly fun kart racer to play with an even more incredible story mode. I feel like this game had an incredible amount of content in it despite how old it is. Some of my greatest LAN memories come from playing this game with friends/family. Better than any other Kart racer out there including Mario Kart.
the first time I tried to play this game was technically with the remake. I did not like it. The controls felt unintuitive and I put it down. I decided to give it another try, now the original version. What a fool I was! What a fool! This is the best kart racer I've ever played. Once you get down the boosting system and all the shortcuts in each stage, it's an amazing experience. I'll try to 100% it. Im not sure if I'll pull it off. But I'll add to my review if I ever do it
El único juego de karts que ha sido capaz de igualar, o incluso superar, al creador del género Mario Kart. Una absoluta maravilla jugable que fuerza al jugador a aprender las mecánicas de derrape para poder ganar incluso las carreras de historia. Porque sí, tiene un modo historia, cosa que Mario no, y es bastante divertido y fiel a la esencia de Crash.

Crash Team Racing is the perfect middleground between Mario Kart and F-Zero for me. With the combination of MK's coin system and a turning-based variant of boosting, every single pathing decision on CTR that you make matters to a crazy degree. Every bit of level geometry becomes something you can bounce off of to get a boost when you hit the ground, every slope a chance to maintain your momentum by bouncing around, every turn not a chance to break, but boost through even faster than a straightaway as you take a perfect line. While I ultimately prefer its remake's focus on maintaining turbo pad boosts rather than short hops to keep momentum from fading on the ground, that doesn't take away from how truly excellent Crash Team Racing is, and what a marvel and technical achievement it is on the Playstation. It FEELS like the only appropriate kart racer for a platforming character, where the bounce and speed of your kart matters most, and god it feels good.

Surprisingly fresh, fun, intuitive and has a lot of tracks, I'm impressed by the fact that Crash Team Racing is so old because if it released today it would still be a great game (some argue even better than Nitro). We ought to compare it to today's standard, because if we compared it to Diddy Racing, MK 64 and Double Dash they are blown out of the water, gameplay sense. To this day I still occasionally boot it up just to clear its story mode and try to 100% it.
Near perfect racing game for the time it came out, and it holds up quite well today. Still super fun to play and mastering the drifting can be extremely satisfying. Anyone who's a fan of Crash or kart racers should be able to enjoy this game. I'd argue it's better than the Mario Karts of its time.
