Darksiders II embraces RPG elements with mixed results. All the strengths of the original game remain with some welcome polish applied, but sorting through incremental loot upgrades and sprawling dialog trees gets in the way of the action more than it accentuates it. Still a charming and fun ride, but lacks the focus of its predecessor.
Right out of the gate the game knows what it has going for it by throwing you into an unknown area where you traverse the environment and slash enemies all the way to a great boss battle at the end of an area which feels as a reward in itself. The puzzles were actually intriguing and made me have to stop and think for a second. An amazing game in the hack-and-slash genre.
A big improvement over the original Darksiders, but its reach far exceeds its grasp. Much bigger than the first, but lacking enough content to actually support its size. A heavier focus on combat, but lacking any depth. I still have yet to complete this game because every time I pick it up I have a bit of fun but eventually get bored and and abandon it for months at a time.
Darksiders II delivers a sprawling blend of action-adventure and RPG elements. As Death, one of the Four Horsemen, you'll embark on a quest to clear your brother's name while wielding scythes, exploring vast dungeons, and solving clever puzzles. The game boasts a unique visual style, enjoyable combat, and a satisfying loot system. However, its pacing can feel uneven at times with occasional technical hiccups on the Wii U port.
