I finished it by using a lot of save states. It's very challenging, and the game doesn't have anything special, but it's a game I never managed to finish when I was a kid.

Demolition Man is a run-and-gun based on the Sylvester Stallone movie of he same name, the game alternates between top-down and side-scrolling levels, in which the player is constantly swarmed with enemies and chasing Simon Phoenix across ten stages, in many bosses encounters, before defeating him for good in the final level. Four weapons will help our players, the standard handgun, an improved magnum, the shotgun and hand-grenades. The top-down segments are definitely the high point of the game, up to fifteen enemies can appear on screen at times, platformers are a little less enemies and a lot more parkour. All of the platforming level design is impressive, with many ropes, descenders, pit traps, hazards and ladders enhancing the overall speed and action on screen. Each environments are dark and gritty, bringing to fruition a violent and brutal atmosphere once joined with the chaos happening on screen.

Bit of a let down. There are two styles of level here, the platforming and gunplay hijinks, reminiscent of Judge Dredd and Alien3, and the top down, more maze-like shooter, which is closer to Smash TV. It's not TERRIBLE, but it's not great either. At least until you make it to the zipline level, which is pure, unadulterated horse shit. The graphics and SFX are decent enough, with some nice, clear sampled speech, but the music is weak, sounding like it was recycled from Mortal Kombat.

Sandpaper ass framerate here, but otherwise pretty middle of the road. The music is a notable positive though, I found myself stopping a couple times to sit back and enjoy it. Definitely a better Sly Stallone game than Cliffhanger, but that goes without saying and I just want a reason to bash Cliffhanger. Fuck Cliffhanger.
