i remember playing this w a rich friend and was surprised that games can be so good

Enjoyment - 7/10
Difficulty - 3/10

Placing Far Cry 3 is tricky. COOL video gamey game moments are had, but there's too much busy work for my taste buds. I'll say this, Far Cry 3 is the cool uncle that drinks too much.
🏆

When this game came out it had a huge impact for First Person Shooters and many other games going forward, and I remembered it being a legendary game that I played it twice, once on PC and another on PS3. It's been a very long time since I played this again and many things about it have been copied a lot by other games, but I'm glad to say that this didn't affected how well this classic game has aged. Still to this day the best one in the series, "Far Cry 3" delivers everything you want our of a single player open world game and a FPS, with gameplay and mechanics that influenced many others and still work great. The story is very solid and well paced, with likeable characters and very intense moments. The graphics have aged a little yes, but it looked amazing at the time and I think if you look it in that lengths it's still impressive for that time period. I was afraid that this one wouldn't be as good as I remembered with more mature eyes, but thankfully this is just as great as it ever was and it remains as one of the very best ones of its kind.

Looked a little outdated but I liked it well enough

Pretty much the same review I gave for the original version on 360:

This was the Far Cry that started it all for me. I have enjoyed every FC game since, although Primal isn't my favorite. Ubisoft gets a lot of crap, and justifiably so, for their open world games with maps loaded with markers and activities, but I LOVE getting into most of these worlds and just living in 'em. Story is usually my priority but with Far Cry I tend to put the narrative in the backseat and just wander around shooting fools, hunting, clearing outposts, crafting items, grabbing vehicles, and pursuing aforementioned activities. I always look forward to every new entry.

By the time I reached the second island, I was bored out of my mind.

The aiming feels terrible as of there is no aim assist on console

I find this game to be a tad overrated. The story is not as smart and well-written as people make it out to be. Vaas is extremely underutilized and his role in this story is absolutely pointless outside of foreshadowing one thing about Jason's arc in the second half of the game, which was extremely disappointing. The dialogue and certain decisions made by characters are either weird or downright stupid. Jason's brother's death was one of the dumbest moments in all of gaming. I found the lore behind the island and the Rakyat to be a much more intriguing aspect of the story than Vaas, especially since he's just treated as a side villain. I think Hoyt, despite being a much less menacing villain, was better written than Vaas. Hell, there was a character in this game named Buck who was also a better antagonist. Overall, Vaas was just not a very good character. Michael Mando's performance is incredible and gives the character a couple of good moments, but you're honestly better off watching the Far Cry 3 Experience live-action videos if you're looking for more of that, because it's not here. I think Jason's arc is good and found the second half of the story to be much more engaging than the first. I also thought the endings were great too.

That's my two cents on the story. How about the gameplay? Absolutely amazing. I love the intentional clunky controls to make Jason play more like a survivor in the beginning of the game. It makes the transition to when you become a total badass so much more rewarding. The only other game I've played that has built its design like this with similar results is Dying Light, which is one of my favorite games of all time. The tatau being an in-universe way of you getting new skills was also clever writing on Ubisoft's part. The island has a lot to do and I'm yet to find a side mission you do in here that isn't fun. The grind to unlock more skills and things to craft is fun. (Especially shark hunting, despite how intimidating it is.) The side quests are fun. The towers are fun. The delivery missions are fun. The trials are fun. The outposts are fun. The traversal is (mostly) fun. This game is fun. I found the steep hills in the first island to be an annoyance but the second island gets rid of them and fixes all of my issues with the first. Incredible game that is definitely worth checking out, despite its flaws. A very influential title that I don't see a lot of buzz around anymore.

It's been 11 years since I last played it and it still holds up as one of my favourite FPS games.

WHY WOULD THEY MAKE VAAS MONTNEEGRO SO HOT IF UR SUPPOSED TO HATE HIM

Michael Mando please let me take an insanity plunge with you thank you.

So far this is my fav. FC ,was really sold on the premise, wich i can't say for 4 and 5.
Altough it lacks some good features from the sequels, the game is really satisfying.
The story is good until the mid point.

First time ever playing a first person shooter.
The controls are a bit clunky, the story is corny and rushed, and the characters don't develop much (Vaas, Jason, Hoyt and Citra don't get NEARLY enough dialogue for them to be great or even decent characters), but in the end, I had lots of fun. The gunplay feels a bit clunky but the many weapons are fun to use and there are many ways you can clear the outposts. Overall a great game to play without great expectations, as it's one of the first games with that annoying cookie cutter Ubisoft formula.
