Simple mod but for its duration it's okay.
PS: It has the worst boss battle I've ever seen.

its alright i dont understand the hate its short yea but what do u expect from a mod

. it's a commynity made map/mod. So keep that in mind for it to not be a great game.
It is really short. You can complete it in 20 minutes or so. Really pissing off loud music. srsly. i can't play with my headphones on. Nice work on the last boss. it was frightning :D if you want to kill some zombies and just have fun by experiencing bugs. Go on. To try it, it's okay. Try it. you won't lose alot of time. Probably even less then me writing this review. Enjoy tho.

Half-Life Before is such a weird situation. The level itself is fine enough but that is kinda the only thing saving it. The enemies feel randomly scattered and don't seem like they were actually placed in good spots. The gimmick of having to push boxes to get to certain points isn't the worst thing ever but it feels so slow and seems like an excuse for a "puzzle." The boss fight is terrible and what makes it worse is that if you let go of your walk button for even a second, you are going to die and you'll have to rewatch the cutscene over and over until you stop dying and beat the boss. It isn't hard, but having to keep walking backwards while shooting, hoping to not bump into any walls is really tedious. Overall the game is a mess with like very few redeemable qualities. It can be beat in less than like 4 minutes so you might as well play it for yourself. Just don't expect anything good.

Not a great mod, but I'd be lying if I said the music wasn't banger.

i beat this game in like 2 minutes and the gameplay wasn't good at all

Not a great mod but very overhated. It is no Hunt Down The Freeman. By far.

Incredibly stank & jank but considering it was the guy's first game it's alright lmao

This is a VERY short Half-life mod, while it is free, that does not pardon its quality entirely, let alone make it fun.

it consists of one level with only a handful of fights where enemys are placed seemingly at random with no real rhyme or reason.

There are a few sad excuses for puzzles and also i got soft locked before the boss fight, the boss in question seems like it was going to be a fight with the Nihilanth which i can imagine being great

The only pros this mod can muster is the map itself is alright, the custom handgun model is a neat touch and the music is pretty good.

Not really anything else to say about it, i don't hate it but it's pretty much just Half-life without everything good about Half-life.

Half Life Before=
- The worst opening in game (or mod) i've ever seen
- Awkward Boss fight
- Questionable story
- It's too fckn short like really short, you can even finish this in under 3 minute

I'd rather play half life source 10x rather than this.

I hate Half-Life: Before even more after replaying it, the level design is abysmal, they just placed down enemies with no purpose, there are way too many enemies, the difficulty randomly spikes, and the puzzles were just "make a box tower to continue".
The audio cant be turned down so it was blasting in my ears and it played the wrong songs in the wrong areas, like for example, the battle theme played when nothing was near me.
The Story was trash, it was about the military attacking the cargo ship with the Xen crystal from the original half-life, and some scientists made a powerful creature, which eats the Xen crystal after you free this guy who the military captured. The creature instantly kills you if you are grabbed by its tentacle and it is above you so you have to look up constantly, so you may bonk on a wall or get cornered by the boss, and the creature is also as fast as you which is terrible gameplay-wise. The boss is also just the Nihilanth but flipped downward. The only thing that is good about this game is that the ending looks alright and that this mod is only like 10 minutes at the most. 1/10 would not recommend to anyone.

ENG: The story is total nonsense, the music is too loud and there's no way to turn it down, and the level design is horrendous. It lasts 20 minutes and some people criticize it for that. But if I think this mod sucks it's not because of its length. I mean, there are good short Half-Life mods like Anti-Climax, but Before? It's without a doubt the sample of how things shouldn't be done. Amateurism at its finest.

¿Pero Before? Es sin duda la muestra de como no hay que hacer las cosas. Amateurismo en su máxima expresión.

imagine if Hunt Down the Freeman was as long as Lost Coast
