the first actually decent update

Like with season 2, I didn't play this one when it was live, so I can't comment on how the game felt when this first launched. Though I do know it helped change the game from being completely horrible to being almost passable, so I have to at least respect it for that.

The battle pass itself is more of the same as the previous two, a bunch of random items that I have very little attachment to, spruced in-between xp boosts and challenge swaps, except this time its totally free! But I have to appreciate this one for only being thirty levels, it felt way more manageable than the previous two. (And again, that was with the current level up system, not whatever they had when this was live. No idea what that would have been like).

Overall, I'd say this is definitely an improvement in just about everyway from the previous seasons, even if it isn't really a season. Still though, as much as it improved, the game still had a lot to improve on at the time, and still has a lot to improve on today.

EDIT: Just remembered this was when they brought in forge and co-op campaign. Forge is nice, never used it to I don't really care. And the campaign co-op was something I wanted since launch, but the execution was laughably horrible, the game was not built to be played with multiple people and they didn't do anything to rectify that. Still tough, this update pushed the overall game in the right direction

Oh hey forge, now we're getting somewhere. And no paid battlepass is always a plus.

im judging a update with only free cosmetics too harshly, but idc. it was alright

A good little update which put the game back on track, but was rather lackluster in content and should have not been on as long as it was.

Volvi al juego pero aun siento que le falta contenido

Pathetic. Boycott this ‘game’.

Halo Infinite "Winter Update" showcases what a live-service Halo game could be if production came close to firing on all cylinders. The new head of live service, Sean Baron, has given Halo fans the first glimpse at the direction he wishes to steer the ship. Progression in Infinite feels appropriate, and the frustrating challenge system has been overhauled to be less important, less time-consuming, and most importantly less demanding that players alter their playstyles. Playlist agnostic challenges and the reduction of the weekly challenge count make the experience of progressing or earning weekly cosmetics much more enjoyable. The newly implemented "Match XP" system, separate from challenges, already feels well-tuned in its initial form. It is also encouraging to hear from 343i that the overall career system development is progressing well and should debut in 2023.

Satisfied with their ability to get kinks worked out over time, Sean green-lit the launch of the Custom Games Browser >3 months earlier than its initial ETA. This, in tandem with the advent of Halo's most expansive Forge offering ever, has breathed new life into Halo Infinite. The return of classics like Lockout, Blood Gulch, and Guardian ring all the right nostalgic bells. Duck hunt, Castle Wars and obstacle courses make their rightful return to Halo and are accompanied by novel sandbox zaniness that display the player-led innovation paramount to Infinite's longevity (shout-out to "Digletts").

Player feedback appeared tantamount to the marketing of the Winter Update: free Reach-inspired cosmetics including Emile's infamous shoulder pieces, a robust file sharer coinciding with Forge's release, a polished rendition of campaign co-op, 3 new maps for arena (all crafted in Forge), scattered community events (I.e. Winter Contingency vol II), and the previously mentioned alterations to the progression system. The promise to incorporate Forge maps into matchmaking furthers the appeal of the multiplayer going forward. Already, the remake of Halo 3's "The Pit" is a welcome addition to Infinite's growing map sandbox.

There are still more items on the docket for Halo Infinite's multiplayer, which feel more achievable now: ongoing resolution of de-sync issues takes technical-precedent, while on the content side of things new BTB maps and the new equipment/weapons promised for Season 3 are in higher demand. Infinite's most glaring omission at this point are its absent game modes. Even with Forge tools in-hand, players remain without official access to Griffball, Infection, Assault, and others. Lastly, of course, the game will also benefit from the rumored Battle Royale-like mode rumored to be in development with Certain Affinity.

With Halo Infinite's co-op fully functional at this point, although without split screen options, I hope that Joseph Staten's crew at 343i will turn their attention to the continuation of Infinite's campaign. Whether "The Endless," or an equivalent story DLC, comes by way of expansion or a spin-off game in the same engine (like O.D.S.T.)... I am eager to see where Chief goes next. In revisiting the campaign this Winter, I was once again reminded how captivating it was in setting up the future of the franchise: many stories and characters remain in limbo. There are also still plenty of foes present to challenge Chief on the Zeta Halo Ring.

I believe Halo Infinite is on the right track, and I remain keen to see what awaits us in Season 3 (slated for March 7, 2023) and beyond.

Good update! Now work on getting something like this out every 3 months.

Season 3 is delayed by 4 months but we got a free 20 tier battlepass and Forge plus a custom games browser. Very rough first year for Infinite that had a little upswing right at the end. New maps and the returning DMR are positives as well.

Still fun, but just started to feel like a chore, given the lack of meaningful progression or rewards. I did play this on and off for 18 months, so enjoyed my time with the multiplayer game, overall.

this wasn't even a real season and still gave us the most content by far

a free 30 tier battlepass consisting of missing reach armor (now don't get me wrong all of this armor should have been in the hero's of reach pass but it was still cool to see)

actual fun events

new game mode (even if its a game mode that could be made in customs)

2 new maps (even if they are both kinda awful)

forge

campaign co-op

mission replay

match XP

and a really good amount of QOL updates

Great comeback with some very welcome additions including, forge, CGB months early and most of the missing Reach armor. UI still slow and crashes, desync and phantom melees are still here, and there's hardly any QOL additions. This is a step in the right direction.

Relit my multi-playing ego-shooting love that had gone stale since Battlefield 3 or 4.

A decade at least. But now I wandered over to CoDmw2wz, I am no loyal man...

Didnt play much of Season 2 of Halo Infinite because a lot of the issues I had from the first season didnt seem fixed but coming back to the Winter Update and the games in a much better shape! Mainly progression isn't as slow as it was at launch and map variety is much improved (still wish we got MCCs matchmaking though because there are some modes I do not care about). Optimization could also be better but I can atleast say crashes have not happened (though I still got some awkward lock ups in the menus). Halo Infinites MP has been one of my favorites in a bit and I'm very optimistic that Echoes Within will be a good season because the Winter Update has been a solid return to Infinite MP.

8.5/10

I have pulled up to a Waffle House drive-thru in a Scorpion. I have blown up the lobby of Peach's Castle. I have wielded a hammer in the Mines of Moria. I have caved skulls beneath the city of Theed.

But most importantly, I've returned home to Lockout and Blood Gulch. Halo Infinite is now truly great.

2. Sezondan daha iyi :)
- Forge ve co-op campaing geldi ve ücretsiz 30 basamaklı BP.

If you enjoyed the multiplayer at launch but wanted to wait until the game was more complete and finessed to really dig in.... you'll probably have to wait a little bit longer, BUT I honestly think its worth trying out or at least just keeping an eye from from this point as the real Halo Infinite multiplayer experience is definitely starting to come alive.

A nice big step in the right direction. Infinite's winter update adds a lot of gooood shit but its really just a teaser for what could potentially be a game-saving season 3.
