A decent golf game, nice to have on the go with the Vita. The timing window on swings is smaller and less forgiving than I would prefer, so the difficulty can feel a bit punishing at times, but I found I could usually succeed by playing smart and safe.

While the character designs are still a bit goofy, they are an improvement over previous Hot Shots games. Unfortunately, there's just not that many of them, and they are slow to unlock. It's the same story with the courses, and even the ones that are included don't feel noticably different from one another apart from music and set dressing. It's a missed opportunity for a game titled World Invitational.

really great golfing game! kinda put the game down since the difficulty around the pro league was getting a bit much for me but before that i had a really great time playing through this game, it has such a fun cozy atmosphere with really charming music and graphics and i loved being able to play golf as toro the cat and kat from gravity rush. i mostly just wish i was better at this game honestly lol i would've loved being able to play this game alot longer.

The best golf game. Too bad it won't come to other consoles

Hot Shots Golf has always been a solid golf series for PlayStation owners since the wee days of the PS1. While it provides cartoony visuals the game is very close to a real golf simulator as you can get. The game has easy controls, fun gameplay, and amazing original courses.

World Invitational doesn’t deviate too far from the already familiar formula. You can create a character and customize every aspect from hair decorations to shoes. Unlocking new items requires meetings certain conditions during the career mode and it gives you something to do and shoot for. Once you get out onto the course things are still quite familiar, and you start to realize why this is the best golf game on the Vita.

The standard golf game affair is here from zooming to the hole, seeing wind speed, checking your lie, and even changing your swing and clubs. Controls are very easy and the swing meter is actually customizable. There are several different types of various different players. You have unlock swing meters, which is strange, but my favorite is the three-step meter. Set your power and then your accuracy is the easiest way to go. I found that this game has an overly sensitive swing meter no matter which you use and it’s very hard to get a perfect swing, more so than most golf games. Courses are also very difficult right off the bat with crazy doglegs, narrow greens, and crazy wind conditions. This is actually the hardest Hot Shots Golf game I have played and it will turn casual players off due to the difficulty.

The game is also grind heavy and unlocking items takes forever, I actually couldn’t advance very far in the career because of the difficulty and unlocking new clubs and earning enough coins just becomes discouraging. There’s no way to restart holes or courses as you have to quit and go back in which is a huge downer. I would start out poorly and by the 5th hole I would want to restart but you have to lose all your progress. This grind heavy playstyle is just a huge turn-off and acquiring trophies in the game is nigh impossible without having a high-level character.

The graphics are amazing with awesome ball physics, beautiful lighting, and great models. All this is nothing if you get frustrated early on in the game, and it’s not just me. I had a friend buy the game shortly after me and even playing online is quite hard and we quickly got frustrated with the game. Occasionally I would go back and try again, but getting to the 15th hole and screwing up big time sucks as you have to quit and start over. There’s not point in finishing because you know you’re going to lose. If you could restart holes this alleviates a majority of the frustration from the game.

As it is, the game is nice to look at, easy and fun to play. Grinding to unlock new items, upgrade your character, and not being able to restart holes makes this quite a frustrating game. The overly sensitive shot meter takes away from pure skill and the courses are extremely hard to play right from the start. I can only recommend this to hardcore golf players despite the audience this series normally aims for.

I had developed a newfound love of golfing games after getting Everybody's Golf 6 on the PS Vita, so this game is special to me lol.
This game is challenging and the physics are really great compared to Everybody's Golf 5. The PS3 and PS Vita version, if I can recall correctly, have some differences to them, so I can recommend getting both versions. I do not like the fact there are a couple characters hidden behind paid DLC and the difficulty spike is pretty tough to get over, but it is rewarding when you get the hang of it. Some challenges are hard to understand that allow you to obtain crowns.

Really solid, but I miss the caddies from Everybody's Golf on PS2. A very nice game to have on the go

Oh man, where did the soul go? Besides the graphical fidelity and camera angles while the ball is flying, I think this game is a step down. Presentation feels very sterile… really lacking in the wackiness of the previous games. You could argue that from HSG3, the wackiness has been going down, but we’re at the bottom with this game. Also, caddies have almost no presence in this game! It was fun watching your caddy sprint towards the ball, or you move your camera to them and they wave. Hell, in HSG4, if the ball is headed towards them on a drive, they would say something funny and duck to dodge it. Where’s all that personality? Greg would tear Marta to shreds sorry for speaking the truth.
The control is great, but not as tuned as previous entries are. The ball rolls WAY too much making gauging your shot feels more imprecise. The marker is not where your ball is projected to land anymore (give or take 10 yards) but instead is where it’s gonna roll (give or take 30 – 50 yards). Also, they got rid of the contour lines during your shot so you have little to no idea what the terrain elevation is from where you’re hitting and where you want your ball to go. Sounds like a small change, but on more difficult maps… god. UH ALSO THE JAPANESE VERSION HAS KIRYU I WISH WE GOT THAT!

An incredible game on the go I have not stopped playing.

Very awesome golfing game, and the first game of this franchise that i have played. Im nowhere near completion of the campaign thing mode but its my go-to game to play when i just want to pick up my vita and play something. The controls are very tight, the overall mechanics are easy to pick up but very challenging to master. Once you get the hang of it, it is very hard to put this game down. Graphics are very close to the PS3 version, id like it more if they were a little more vibrant tho. The music and overall sound design is very joyful, it really messes with your head in a good way the sounds it makes when you get a perfect shot or when you get a decent score in a map. I also really love the character designs and having emo/dark outfits on my characters lol... Only downside is that the english dub is very annoying on this one, and that apparently theres no way to play online due to the servers having been killed a while ago...

I really reccomend to give this game a try even if you dont care about golf or sport games and have a vita!
