I actually had a lot of fun with this one. I didn't play through any of the EX stages or try to max out my scores or anything, but I did play through all the main stages. I think the one thing I was confused about was that the gameplay had this emphasis on like, racking up combos? But in action it seemed really rare to get a genuine, smooth feeling combo above like. Four. And usually I only got twos. But whatever, it was fun while it lasted.
this game's pretty bad but i think it's really interesting to see how HAL experimented with 3D kirby throughout the 2010s before all of that culminated in forgotten land. they tested the inhale/bullet mechanics with this and 3D rumble in robobot, the ability mechanics in battle royale, and exploration in star allies' world map. cool stuff
Surprisingly, this it pound-for-pound one of Kirby's strongest entries. It's small in scope, to be sure, essentially a 25th anniversary remake of Kirby's Dream Land (now the SIXTH or so time DL1 had this treatment), but I find myself in love with every decision made here. Gameplay is tight and focused, with each level essentially being a score attack puzzle room. Movement isn't exactly locked to a grid, but snapping between the eight cardinal directions feels great, and there's a nice analogue weight to nailing targets with Blaster Bullets. High scores feel great to work towards, being easily within reach with just a little patience and mastery. The endgame feels like a great set of raised stakes for Kirby, with the last level specifically one of Kirby's greatest gauntlet challenges, up there with the best Arenas. The tracks are all remixes, but man, some of the later remixes give me chills. Even the short length is just right - any longer, and this gameplay style would overstay its welcome. Any shorter, and it wouldn't feel right. Don't sleep on this one.
at one point during a level kirby got so big that my mind unconsciously came up with the thought "haha mpreg kirby" and ive felt like shit ever since
my shameful behaviour aside i think this is pretty neat as a standalone spin off but also its very interesting to see proto forgotten land mechanics (sort of) in a full 3d environment which can make this a spiritual predecessor of some kind to that one
in some ways i also see this as a return to form for kirby gameplay because the last kirby game of which main gimmick was sucking and spitting ... umh that sounds awful lets say absorbing and discharging (?) was ironically fucking 1992 kirby's dream land for the game boy jesus fucking lord and thats because copy abilities completely annihilated this gameplay style but actually im pretty fine with that
either way cool addendum to an already great series and oh shit kirby 3d land

Fun little spin off test demo by HAL that is pretty much the predecessor for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I enjoyed the game enough, very bite sized, the only thing I'm not quite a fan of is how strict the end of level medal awards are in terms of needing to perfectly time everything and maximize your score to get the Gold/Platinum trophies, which lock most of the rest of the game behind achieving those. Overall, it's a nice fun time though.
I really appreciate the way in which the power of incredible violence is utilized in this particular Kirby game. An overall excellent reference to Kirby's Dream Land reflected in both the simplicity of the gameplay revolving around exclusively inhaling enemies and spitting them back at other enemies, as well as a comparatively short completion time. Easy and intuitive enough for the most casual gamer to pick up and have immediate fun, but not so easy that it will put the average seasoned gamer to sleep.
One of the best bowling games I've ever played.
I look forward to experiencing yet more acts of incredible violence committed by our favorite lovable pink menace.
