the real winner was whoever made it to the top of the volcano on sandy bay and jumped in first

I mean compared to other racing games, Lego Racers 2 still has alot of impressive deviations from the genre that only a Lego game could have - but Lego Racers 1 also had a shit ton of charm and its a shame that Lego Racers 2 gave so much of that away.

The open world thing was kind of weird, but still a childhood favorite.

Having skipped the first game for any frame of reference, this one features an exploration mode to find golden blocks, a build your race car mode, an alright set of tracks and a story that... yeah, maybe as a kid it can be any amusing. Having said that, I can see it being still fun to play.

I remember the theme of Lego Racers 1, this game did not include that, so I am rating this 3/5

This game is the last one, with less good things to make it bad. The Story is that Rocket Racer is annoyed he lost the race against you, even though he was clearly happy for you in the last game and drives his car though a portal to where aliens chase him until he somehow switches his car into a different one out of nowhere, and now is the best racer on mars, and challenges everyone in the world to a racing match. The Graphics are bad, but wouldn't look bad for a PS1 game, but it's a PS2 game, so it should look better. The Gameplay has you customize your own character, and car, unless you pick a default one, before entering a Lego world, with 5 different locations to explore before racing, and it is a good welcome, the races are the same as last time, except that the power bricks are different this time, they include invisibility, a bubble that explodes any car inside it, disks that explode other cars, other weapons that help you attack other cars, and rockets that target 1st place which is represented by a dog picture for some reason. So, there is no Speedup from the last game or shield from the last game, which is disappointing and makes the powerups less verified despite that fact that there are more of them, and they aren't even colored this time, their random and you can't know what they are until you get them. Also, if you're car explodes you are almost guaranteed to lose the race, since you have to run to the next pit stop for it to come back, which by that time, other races will be too far ahead for you to catch up easily.
You can play in any other world, early but the story doesn't advance until you do it in order, you can run over random people in some tracks to but, that would work as their world's version of murder, so why did they do that, can't they die from being hit? because they don't benefit from hitting them so it's just confusion without reward. The final track is just a circle, which is too simple compared to the rest of the tracks, and another track on mars has you in a figure of 8, these are stupid as climaxes to your racing game. The Music is very flat and boring compared to the first game's music. Lego racers 2 is makes the first game better though it's inferiority with technology that should make it better but serves us disappointment instead.

Weirder and harder than the original, sometimes to a fault. The open world driving is a welcome addition, especially with the amount of collectables and how cleverly the developer hid them in the environments. The boss races, though - some are reasonably difficult while others seem so poorly designed that it's hard to see how the player is intended to win at all. I'd love to see this franchise get resuscitated some day since there's the skeleton of a really unique racer here, although I sincerely doubt it'll ever happen.

I never cared about the races because the whole bricks being laid around levels was such a cool concept to me. Now I want a game that's entirely that, but with real sim cars. Is that too much to ask?

Played this and the first one SOO much as a kid!

lmao at me thinking i probably sank 300 hours into this as a kid - just 100% the game in about 2 hours today. fixed my time played for myself

The local versus mode where you destroy each others car was a real good way to bond with elementary school friends, let me tell you.

era bem divertido de perder tempo jogando hehe

I might catch you by the tummy - Sparky
