for its simplicity, the gameplay was very engrossing, until I got into the autism-driven grinding phase which soured me a good deal due to the 5-10 combos that have semi-bullshit rationale. similarly annoying, for similar meaningless reasons, is how 100% steam completion (ask me about other things that matter) is locked behind dlc that basically just forces you to replay the game again with a few scattered changes (possible philosophical justification taken note of).

goo aesthetic remains cute and disgusting. was a fan of the ending sequence; wish more dialogue like that was featured in the main game.

A fun game, it can be kind of slow and your basically just watching stuff burn over and over again. for some reason i still love it though.

i didnt even know this game had a real ending until i got it on a random stream at 2 am, i was so delirious i thought i was high

japan has very strict copyright laws which in turn makes it a requirement for major content creators to get permission from publishers/developers before streaming/recording gameplay
it also sometimes leads to weird requirements like not being allowed to show the ending or cutscenes
i believe the line of reasoning is "if people watch someone else play the game then they don't actually need to play the game themselves, meaning they never financially support the game, and any financial support would go to the content creator instead"
generally i believe this is a stupid line of thinking because this is a very general way of thinking that can't necessarily apply to every game
i think the western gaming advertising method has clearly shown that letting content creators share the game to a large audience will almost always spread that game to people who otherwise wouldn't have been interested and almost always results in a larger reception and thus larger sales

yeah ive seen so many playthroughs of this game that i dont want to play it
i didnt even buy the game myself i played it from my brother's account
its just kinda boring knowing literally everything that happens in the game
i dont hate it but its not exactly something that can be relived with a new playthrough
thats really all i have to say about it

I love the idea behind it. There's not much gameplay to speak of. You literally buy things to burn and then repeat.

Who thought burning stuff couldn't be fun?
Simple and enjoyable. But not much of substance here besides that...

Videogame burn toy shop fire hot bright burn win beat walk house

this is the closest I've been to experiencing christmas with a fireplace

Small little game that you can really just sit down and get lost in for a few hours.

A short but still very enjoyable game with a fun little world and creative achievements to collect

fun game! unique premise good time waster

Sights & Sounds
- The visual design of the game is very Tim Burton-esque, in that slightly creepy but still kinda cute manner. It probably skews towards cute on that spectrum, though
- I like the 50s informational video music (at least as far as theming goes), but the rest of the music is pretty forgettable

Story & Vibes
- The story that plays passively in the background as you burn all your possessions has a heavy anti-consumption emphasis. The metaphor is a little on the nose, but it's not without its charm
- There aren't many characters besides your chatty neighbor, the local weatherman, and the matronly antagonist CEO who sold you your Little Inferno Fireplace. They carry the story and emotional cues along well enough, but are similarly unmemorable
- The game is pretty funny at times, mostly in the creative ways in which some of the items burn

Playability & Replayability
- The gameplay is barely existant. You buy items, burn them, hunt for combos, collect money, and repeat this cycle for a few hours until the game ends
- The names in the combo list often provide pretty blatant hints. Some required considerable guessing, though
- There's nothing gameplay-wise that really invites a replay

Overall Impressions & Performance
- The story was nice, but the gameplay dragged on without much variety. Despite the game's short length, it still feels like it overstayed its welcome
- It played pretty well on the Steam Deck

Final Verdict
- 5.5/10. Good enough for a single playthrough if you can get it on sale

It's a game that's for sure, it got a DLC not too long about but just why?
