This DLC takes the same approach as the previous one with one large interconnected level. It is unfortunately a bit overdone in this instance though. I complained about ambiguity in the previous DLC, but this one kicks that ambiguity up by a factor of 10. The main level is very large compared to the previous DLCs, and I found myself aimlessly wandering a lot while trying to figure out what to do. There are some puzzles in this that even border on tedium and aren’t as well thought out as any puzzles from the rest of the game. The developers definitely attempted to experiment here, which is much appreciated, but man some of the new mechanics just fall flat. My least favorite of all was the decision to introduce waves of shadow kids that instantly kill you, and your only line of defense is a flashlight beam that is extremely difficult to control precisely. I died more times to the shadow monsters than I did in the entirety of the whole game plus all DLCs up to this. I found myself swapping back and forth between praising the new mechanics being introduced, and then becoming increasingly frustrated as their execution throughout was poor. Although this has been quite negative so far, I still really enjoyed this DLC. I think the saving grace was the ending, which I believe made the entire idea to do DLC worth it. I’m a huge fan of the story told here, and although I feel there is some missed potential in the gameplay, I still finish with a satisfied feeling.
