incredibly difficult game to review due to my long history with it and its general mismatch in quality between (apparently still to some extent ongoing) updates.

i will say as a positive, it’s very accessible… though this accessibility comes at a cost, and every level designer i’ve met who’s used the game before has admitted feeling restricted by it, and eventually giving up on it entirely. there are much better options for both “ways to make mega man levels” and “ways to play a bunch of mega man levels”, but mega man maker continues to thrive purely because none of these better alternatives sound as simple and broadly appealing as “mario maker for mega man”.

even still, mega man maker has begun to flounder in this one niche, adding more and more assets in their arms-race to make every update larger that take half-steps towards true free customizability while still having handicaps for staying “newcomer friendly”, appeasing no-one and only serving to fill a bullet-point list of Big New Things; a list that’s becoming so bloated that it ironically might scare off would-be newcomers.

the intricacies of my problems with this game could fill an entire ocean, but i’d rather save myself the headache, especially as i, to some extent, only write this review so that i won’t have to later if someone unassuming comes along to recommend the game or ask why i dislike it.

in some ways, i owe a lot to mega man maker, even if a lot of it was indirect. but i really don’t see a reason to ever come back.

guys, never go to the discord server and watch the thread called
"Into the fire, Into Brazil, A journey into the infamous megaman comic (Completed)"

i made a level and it got 12 dislikes

I made a level and finished it. I felt like a game designer. The game is really well made

Super Mario Maker looks like a joke compared to this NGL

A masterclass in crafting a fangame. Building your own NES-style Mega Man level from the ground up is simple & rewarding thanks to an easy-to-understand interface. The editor is robust with features, including the "NES-ification" of content from MM games that weren't even originally on NES. And it's all for free. The devs went above & beyond here & this game absolutely deserves recognition.

The Mario Maker of Mega Man. This is like my dream game as I am a big classic MM fan, and this is just an endless version of classic MM with user-created content.

Doesn't get a perfect 10 from me though, because user-created content can be a mixed bag of well designed thought out levels or utter shit/cheap difficult bait. You never know what you're gonna get.

Other thing is that I wish Capcom supported this officially to get more people on this + console support. At the very least the devs are doing a very good job at continuous support for this game.

great little level editor with tons of options. it's been years since I've played it but as far as I can tell it's only gotten better

It’s insane what the mega maker team was able to accomplish with this. It’s super high quality m, and super fun tk play and make levels with. What more could you want?

My original review felt very mean-spirited, thus I am writing a new one to replace it.

This is a great level editor which gives you plenty of tools that allow you to make Mega Man levels better than Bounce Man's stage.

Really good creator but I've never played a Mega Man game so I can't make good levels lol
