The Two Colonels is the condensation of the darkest and the most disturbing aspects of the Metro: Exodus, extracted into a distinct tragic story, where the ending was pretty much predefined. It is this feeling of entrapment, both in terms of the setting (radiation-contaminated ruins of Novosibirsk) and the predestined storyline that makes the overall narrative so powerful and profound. I am not a huge fan of horror shooters, so was not too excited about the gameplay, but what made me through the few hours of this DLC, was exactly the contagious feeling of duty and determination that Col. Khlebnikov radiated (no pun intended) through the lens of Col. Melnikov.
Log posted in 2020: This DLC is amazing, it only took me 2 hours to finish it but don't let that stray you away from this great piece of content.
You take on the role of Colonel Khlebnikov the father of Kirill which is a character you find when playing the main game. This is where you will understand what happened on the metro under the dead city of Novosibirsk before Colonel Miller and Artyom found Kirill.
Its a great journey that will show you the highs and lows of a relationship between a father and a son.

Really nice to get a bit more insight into what happened before you arrived in Novosibirsk, and how other folks' actions lead to your goal.
Also got to admire 4A games for making this DLC more like the previous entries, and having the balls to increase the claustrophobia by making your arm and weapon take up half the bottom of the screen. Often felt like looking through a small visor, and that on top of the vignette of the helmet and tight corridors made this extremely tense.

I finished Metro Exodus about one year ago I think, and maybe this is just because I don't remember it well, but I think this is the best part of the game. The lineal level design is much more reminiscent of Metro 2033/Last Light, and tbh I like the linearity much more than the open levels Metro Exodus has. The first section where you need to clear this stinky basement with a flamethrower was just incredibly immersive.

Now this was much more like it.
After the more open ended hub based design in the main game, we get a claustrophobic linear experience the series started with. Add in some much needed intensity after the lack in the base game and a satisfying story connection for my favorite in the series since 2033.
Very nice.
