Mighty No. 9, touted as the spiritual successor to Mega Man, fell tragically short of expectations. While its core gameplay holds some classic platforming charm, it's marred by uninspired level design, frustrating enemies, and a disappointing visual style. The game feels unfinished, with jarring difficulty spikes and a lack of the memorable boss battles that defined the genre it sought to emulate. Despite a few glimmers of potential, Mighty No. 9 is a lackluster experience that fails to live up to its legacy.

This game isn't really that bad. The soundtrack is great and the gameplay itself is fine. Just the story is pretty bad and the combat could be better even though its not bad.

I wanted to write that the game should be deleted from everyone who has it on any device, but I got to thinking, even the trash of the gaming industry has a soul. Here the patient actually has not yet completely died. Game design. As I always like to write, it’s crap, it was clearly laid out by crap people, but as a franchise that almost completely repeats the mechanics of MegaMan-like games and tries to pull out at least something pleasant, thank you for that, the external component itself is pleasant. Almost everything in the game is bad, so you have to go through this hell yourself.

Enjoyment - 3/10
Difficulty - 5/10

I have the platinum trophy for Mighty No. 9. Who hurt me to think this was a good idea to achieve? Well, the game was on my PSN profile for so many years with only ONE trophy achieved. Initially played it briefly, and hated it. That is the common consensus for most players. Since then, the game has been laughing at me, crying out LOSER every chance it got! I was tired of this treatment, so I geared up and tackled the game.

It is a hot mess. Even after mastering the game, I can't say I fully enjoyed myself. It did feel torturous, but there is a small part of me that saw past the glaring flaws and imagined the polished version of the game. When you get a hang of the game, there is something here but I can't precisely tell you what that is.

If the game took different directions then maybe this would be considered a half decent game. Honestly, playing games like this is part and parcel of being a video game enthusiast. To play all kinds of games develops a deeper appreciation for video games.

Deceptively fun. MN9 is more X than Classic Mega Man. I was iffy on the Dash-to-Kill idea at first, but it grew on me once I saw that it isn't a boon on pacing (it often makes the game faster). It's an Inti game, which means both its level and boss design can be demanding. Unfortunately, the game has occasional performance issues.

yeah, certainly not bad as people say, but certainly not good

I remember when I went into this with absolutely no expectations and imagining it to be the worst thing imaginable, definitely not THAT bad but it's definitely not good, expectations were flushed down the drain for this

This is another game I’ve had in my sights, and even owned, since last year’s Mega Man Mega Marathon. In all but name, it’s a Mega Man game to me, so I figured it was only appropriate to include it. A friend of mine had an extra Steam key for it lying around, and she was kind enough to give it to me so I could finally experience this controversial title. I had heard all the hate for it back when it came out and since then, but I’d also heard several people I trust say it’s pretty decent, so I went in not really knowing what to think but being pleasantly surprised with what I found. It took me around 4.5 hours to beat the English version of the game.

The game followed our titular Mighty No. 9, Beck, as he tries to get his rampaging fellow Mighty No.’s under control after they suddenly go berserk. There’s a fair bit of intrigue between stages around the reasons why the robots went bad and who was involved, and it all has a very Saturday morning cartoon-vibe to it, right down to the voice acting. I know some people really didn’t care for how the Mighty No.s are characterized and found them annoying, and while I think that’s a fair opinion to have, I really enjoyed their banter, especially for the one who constantly talks like he’s a traffic helicopter XD. The whole game gave me vibes very similar to something like Vanquish but a bit more kiddy, and I really dug it. I understand not vibing with it, but I think the story fits its purpose just fine.

The gameplay very much feels like its made by Inticreates (which it is), as it really does feel like a lost Mega Man X or Mega Man Zero game. Beck controls very much like Mega Man, even down to how he can absorb weapons from defeated bosses and can’t fire up or down, but with the extra addition of a charge move much like Bass or X can do in their Mega Man games. If you weaken an enemy, you can charge through them to destroy them and absorb a temporary buff from them (from more speed to more damage to E-tank fuel), and this is also how you deal permanent damage to bosses (as otherwise they’ll just heal the damage back). That last point isn’t actually properly explained to you, for whatever reason, and that lack of explaining is probably one of my main presentation complaints with the game. I don’t think it works perfectly, but the quick, hit and run style that it encourages was a quite fun way to approach one of these games, and between the stage design and the boss design, I thought this fit right into the quality of Inticreates’s more mid-range titles (right down to the final stage that’s a bit too hard with the final boss that’s a real battle of attrition).

The presentation is just fine. I’m not exactly in love with the 2.5D design of everything, but I don’t dislike it nearly as much as some people. Compared to another Kickstarter 2.5D action game like Bloodstained, I’d say this game’s aesthetic is pulled off much better than that. The music is also by and large just fine, although there weren’t any particularly memorable tracks to me.

Verdict: Recommended. While it’s hardly the best Mega Man-like game and certainly not Inticreates’s best title, by the time I was done with Might No. 9, I really didn’t understand the hate pile it got. With how badly the Kickstarter was run, I can certainly understand people being set up to dislike it, but the actual quality of the game just doesn’t reflect that at all to me. As a big Mega Man fan, I quite enjoyed it, and if you’re someone who enjoys Mega Man or Inticreates games too, you will likely have quite a good time with Mighty No. 9 too~.

Mid is too high, but awful is too bad, its just meh

Man it's not even the worst Megaman game, it's just the product of the world's shittiest kickstarter campaign ran by a shady bastard

I genuinely think what makes this game so bad is that it feels as if it was born out of spite. It was sort of a "you don't want me to make Mega Man? Then I'll make Mega Man myself" statement from the creator of Mega Man to Capcom after their continued neglect of the IP. Combine that with the crowd funding and severe overpromising and you get one of the worst games ever created. I really REALLY wanted to like this game and kept telling myself that until I got to the end of the game. Level design is atrocious, the combat downright sucks and the entire game just feels horribly uninspired. It was advertised as a "spiritual successor" to Mega Man but took that statement a little too seriously. Every character and I mean EVERY character in the game has an exact 1:1 parallel in the Mega Man games and does absolutely nothing to have even a taste of originality. This game also rested in development hell for years and still ended up being painfully short - assuming you were masochistic enough to endure the entire game like I did. Very unfortunate proof that sometimes a game designer/developer is only as good as their publisher and studio.

La palabra "Injusto" hecha videojuego

This game had some strenghts, but it always took what's worst in it and forced you to repeat that. It's a piece of shit, I would say. 2,4% of people who played it on PS4 completed it, and it's a game that's about two hours long. That's saying something.

This game is very controversial, and I was completely aware of everything going into it, but I wanted to give it a fair chance. Ignore all outside knowledge and judge the game for what's in the game. How did that go?

it's alright.
It doesn't look the prettiest, and the story can be pretty stupid at times, but I... had a lot of fun playing it. It feels like a stock standard mega man game at times, but... some of the stages were genuinely really fun to go through.

renting this from the library at a young age probably did irreparable damage to my brain

There's a difference between a mediocre game and a mediocre Mega Man game. 'Mighty No. 9' is the former. It gets a lot of crap for the shitshow development and it deserves some of that but honestly, it works better than you'd expect considering what lead up to its release. Everything is perfectly serviceable but for people who wanted the next big Mega Man game, this ain't it.

Cleverly used the world's love of Mega Man against us all, it took until Bloodstained for me to even consider playing a Kickstarted game after this disgrace and Yooka-Laylee.

I do like the character designs of pretty much all the robot characters but with Inafune's past work designing Mega Man characters it's good that at least they got that right, gameplay is completly devoid of anything that made Mega Man fun and iconic, in paticualar a disgustingly frusterating Sniper stage, inconsistant difficulty, a final boss difficulty spike that if you made it this far will make you reach for the off switch. Story is completly unmemorable that the idea that this was going to be expanded to a multimedia franchise is nothing short of a gross oversight

It's my headcannon that Capcom released Mega Man 11 to slam dunk on this one to show how it's done and put him back in hibernation, maybe another Mighty number 9 game will give us Mega Man 12...

If you are looking for a true Mega Man successor give Azure Striker Gunvolt or Gravity Circuit a try, even for the Mega Man diehards or those curious this ones worth a skip

1/10

Mighty No. 9 is a very controversial game to say the least, from it's Kickstarter Campaign being a mismanaged clusterfuck to it's eventually release and lukewarm reception, it's a game that's been lambasted and roasted to high hell, but personally I feel Mighty No. 9 is overhated, does it have problems? oh yes it does! from inconstant difficulty to equally inconstant level design, it's a game that's riddled with NES era bullshit, from bottomless pits, instakill spikes and instakill boss attacks,

it's a game that wears it predecessor on it's sleaves, but even with all those complaints aside MN9 can be a very fun experience, once you memorize the levels and boss patterns it can be quite enjoyable, personally this comes from trying to clear levels as quickly as possible while obliterating and absorbing every thing in you're path, I use my favorite Weapon that being the 'Remote Cannon' which is a big fuck you bomb to every enemy in the vicinity, but my least favorite would have to be the 'Electric Seed', it fires 5 projectiles and if stuck slowly drains enemies of health I genuinely didn't see any use for this, not for normal enemies anyway, for bosses with a gigantic hitbox it's actually kinda decent,

my favorite level would probably be the Capitol Building in which you have to dodge bullets that can sometimes follow you, and eventually navigate through instakill tripwires, my least favorite would probably be the Power Planet, it's very basic and uninteresting, only notable things about it are the power generators that you have to carefully slide under other wise you die and that the lights in the level will flicker on and off, although that's completely undermined by the fact that aside from the opening of the stage you always have some form of light leading you where to go, would have been neat if it was a bit more tricky on where you need to go,

but yeah Mighty No. 9 is just an ok game that can sometimes be stupidly unfair, genuinely wish it got a second chance with a direct sequel.

This legit just sucks so much its insane. This is the only game in the past four years that has made me feel as much pure frustration and anger as the worst game I've ever played

1/10

I don't think it's the worst game on the world, but it;'s definetly mid

Game has mechanics that are good on paper but executed poorly, bad level design, very ugly graphics and horrible optimization. I don't know how you do this badly with a million dollar budget.

great googly moogly this game is peak, can't wait for red ash!

Its not even that the game is particularly bad. I mean, it is, just based on it having level design so bland and punishing you'd think they pulled it straight from Mega Man 1 on the NES. More than anything, its just boring and lacking inspiration.

I should've just put my cock and balls in a blender that would've been much more fun then the latter half of this game.

Its like fine, then it just gets progessively more bad the closer to the end you get. That final boss fight genuinely should get whoever designed it thrown in a cell with Yuji Naka I am not kidding.
