Whoa... this game is pretty great. It's like a prototype hybrid of Mario 64 platforming and Zelda. You also get to play as multiple characters too that each have different abilities and items.

This is absolutely one of those games worth playing for the soundtrack. The music is awesome.

When you overlook the lack of camera control, this game is alot of fun and is full of variety and personality. Honestly, words cannot describe how much personality this game has. It's very memorable and unique (PLAAASMAAAA! hehehe)

Also this game has sushi platforms and you can swim in ramen broth in the gourmet submarine castle 10/10. That's pretty awesome (and it made me very hungry)

There are these cool sections where you get to play as Impact, this giant robot, and you just bulldoze through everything and fight Kabuki bosses and they're fun (when you know the controls because the game doesn't give any tutorials on that unfortunately).

I would rent this all the time because I though it was freaking cool. Problem was, I didn't own a memory card. So every time I rented it, I had to restart it.

The world is colorful and vibrant, chock full of personality. This carries through to the story and dialogue, which strike this perfect balance of being cheesy without being annoying; there's literally a laugh track during cutscenes and it somehow works perfectly. Oh, and of course, nearly every song is a banger.

In terms of gameplay, it controls pretty well, though fairly slow. I thought the castles (aka dungeons) were well structured, though the open outdoor areas were too large and sparsely populated, resulting in exploring a lot of empty space. The use of four characters that each have their own abilities and powers was also done nicely, as the later portions of the game continued to utilize everything at your disposal as opposed to forgetting those options exist.

This game is severely overlooked, as it really was one of the better examples of a 3D platformer / adventure game upon its release.

Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon is a wonderful Zelda like game on the N64 with plenty of comedy moments. While I certainly wouldn't put this game's story as serious, it was entertaining throughout, and it's just the right vibe of a Saturday morning cartoon show that is severally missed nowadays. The platforming is solid through out, and the ability to use up to 4 different characters, all of which can take center stage really helps from making this game staying fresh if you ever got bored controlling any given character. The dungeons are all interestingly laid out and different enough that each one feels like a new experience, and overall is one of the best experiences on the N64.

Extremely fun and well-realized Zelda-like platformer with an obscene amount of charm in its visuals, story, and dialogue. One of those games that really nails the strengths of the N64, instead of feeling it's limited by it's weaknesses. Game sometimes shows its age in some frustrating moments, but overall it was a joy to experience and I feel like anyone with an affinity for the N64 should seek this one out as soon as possible. Just be warned, it can be a bit of a pain to emulate.

A classic I play every few years. The gameplay, setting, bizarre humor, and excellent music keep me coming back again and again.

Substantially better than any 3D Zelda, despite coming out before Ocarina of Time. Just play this and forget about that series.

This is a really cute adventure game. I like the simplicity of the graphics along with the bright colors. A perfect game for younger players and those who want to feel nostalgic.
The soundtrack is unique, the story is silly, and the boss battles have a bit of challenge to them.
Definitely one of the first games I would recommend to someone wanting to check out the N64 library.

Incredible game with exceptional writing, interesting given we never got most of these games in the US.

The laugh track seems like it would have been a huge misstep, but actually works really well. The gameplay is great, with the exception of the camera (a general issue with games around this time) which likes to get stuck on the geometry of some of the levels.

When you learn that Impact has super secret special moves (like a head laser, or Hokuto No Ken style machine gun punches) the game really just hits full steam.

Could not recommend enough.

My emulator wasn't so hot with this one, but I like Goemon

a blockbuster banger that you rented at least twice

I'm so mad. This is one of two N64 cartridges I have with me in this apartment, but I haven't had that damn save pack for YEARS. It's the only thing keeping me from re-completing this absolutely bonkers game with its wonderful characters and beautiful aesthetic.

I played this one for the GBC. One of my first games ever. I was 6yo. I didn't understand anything what was going on. It was amazing.

This game has some of the best humor and charm I have ever seen in a game. Gameplay-wise, it's kinda like Mario 64 meets Zelda. The giant robot Impact returns for some cool first-person battles which are the best of the series I've played so far. The dungeons are easier and simpler than in Zelda, but still good fun.
