Early Access Impressions:

"How disappointing... Even your own history rejects you"

Happy to report Moon Studios follow up to the fantastic Ori games makes a strong first impression in what might just end up being their most valiant and ambitious effort to date. An isometric ARPG Soulslike with elements of life sims like Stardew and Animal Crossing in the beautifully strikingly dark and oppressive world that is Isola Sacra. There's a long road ahead before 1.0 but I've already put in 37 hours of playtime and can't get enough of the world and gameplay loop after already finishing the main story content that's available at the moment. I rarely jump in and gamble on early access releases and even right now I'm not sure if I could recommend this in the state its in as its only really a foundation and the performance issues that have plagued it for me. But the team at Moon has done a great job with player feedback and a number of things I had issue with on the first day have been improved or fixed. I really can't wait to see what's next for the characters of Sacrament and challenges that await me. Rarely do you see a studio take this much of a swing into new territory and still retain a lot of their identity. I can only hope from here on out that Moon delivers on their promise as this could end up being one for the ages.

pretty fun but will continue once more content is released.

O jogo tem um puta potencial, muito bonito parece que foi pintando a mão, muito lindo mesmo e é bem gostoso de jogar, mas acho melhor esperar para ele ser lançado completo, o jogo está muito bugado e rodando bem mal.

i did not have that much fun but the lore was interesting enough to keep me playing

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE EARLY ACCESS

So, as you can tell Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of my favorite games of all time, so I was ECSTATIC when this game was revealed. I was so excited to play it and I finally got around to the Early Access. Unfortunately, the launch was a bit.. rougher than expected, Which I'll get into later, but beneath the Early Access crustiness lies yet another Moon Studios HIT.

In typical Moon studios fashion, this is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, but in a very different way compared to Ori. Ori balances areas of darkness with equally high if not higher areas of serene wilderness, kind of like a Ghibli movie. Here though? This game is dark fantasy to the max, with some great gothic locations and some excellent character and boss designs. The Music also sounds great and the voice acting in the surprisingly well-animated cutscenes sound great as well.

Weirdly enough the sound editing isn't that great, with some attacks not having the weight that the animations make them out to have, and some things like the lock-on sound being a bit hard to discern but most of the rest of it turned out well. I can't comment on the story as we only have the first bit of it, but I am intrigued to see where it goes.

The combat is really heavy and slow, but very satisfying. There's a bit of weapon durability annoyance in there and the balancing of that vs the enemy density and strength is a bit lopsided, but it isn't too bad. It's a little weird how I can spec super hard into defense and yet some enemies can still kill me in one hit so that's a little silly.
Even more silly is the game's inventory management, which, as of now, just straight-up sucks. The UI is extremely crowded, with so much dicking around in these menus, compounded by the fact that there's no auto pickup making it a chore to collect resources which is how you offset the brutal durability system. And if you die too many times, you eventually reach that bloodborne loop where you have no healing items but you need stuff from enemies to get those healing items, which sends you into that familiar downward spiral. It can be a bit too punishing at times.

And that is on top of the multitude of Early Access weirdness in this game. There are a lot of basic QOL options not in the game, like key bind mapping and pausing, the frame rate was pretty bad at launch (though it has been fixed for me) and there are a bunch of minor bugs and features that just aren't here. In my mind, this is definitely an Early Access ass Early Access game.

And that's how I'd describe this game. It is a game that, in all of the areas that count, is spectacular. Great visuals, music, combat, exploration, and an interesting narrative. But the balancing on the game's systems, the QOL, and the polish in terms of bugs and performance could be better. This game is getting patched pretty frequently, so maybe by the next update or two, it can reach that level that the Ori games set out for it. But right now, I'd say to temper your expectations, since it IS early access.

Playing this does feel like not resting for like 20 years

I don't like leaving first-impression reviews here especially for an Early Access release, but this is a game I was kind of excited for, so to see that this self-proclaimed "reinventing of the ARPG genre" is a really clunky mashup of Souls and Diablo with enemies that don't stagger, loot that sucks and platforming that feels like exploiting level geometry, well it didn't really tickle my fancy I'll tell you that much

Holy hell man. I know I'm biased considering how much I love the Ori games, but this game, even in early access, in unbelievable. Some of the most impressive graphics I've ever seen, and it plays like a dream (usually). A soulslike mixed with animal crossing-esque city building and resource gathering certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea, but as a busy ass college student, it definitely has been mine. Of course, its early access, so its definitely not... perfect. it's actually pretty far from being perfect. but that's why its in early access. Moon has been hard at work releasing hotfix after hotfix to make sure this game keeps getting better and better, so I'm rather confident that the final release is really going to be something to behold. I reeeeeeeally need them to push the echo knight to later in the game, though, because him being the fourth boss is like having fucking slave knight gael or someone be the fourth boss of DS3, difficulty-wise, especially when he's at the end of a roguelite-ish sort of gauntlet that takes like 20 minutes to get through.

eu sei que tá em Early Acess, mas foi totalmente contra minhas expectativas. Não é ruim, mas é exatamente o que eu não queria jogar.

It is hard to judge this game too much because there is so little of it in Early Access, but considering the developers implied the campaign would be fully completed only for it not to be makes this review fair enough. No Rest for the Wicked is a blend of Dark Souls with Diablo, which is honestly a great combination. The combat is slow, methodical, and has a lot of weight to it. You need to be careful and it is very difficult if you are trying to play it like other ARPGs. Along with this, the level design is really cool. You don't have nearly as many restrictions as to where you can go, letting you find your own little routes up places with shortcuts that loop back around. The loot is okay, there is a lot of customization you can make which is really good for the build variety you can make. But there just isn't a lot of this game. A short campaign, a lot of farming resources for housing stuff, and a decent story that has potential. But I can't base my experience off of 'potential' and it is clear that it should've been delayed, with the release having the full campaign instead of only the first act. I will probably revisit this game when it is out of Early Access, but for now it plays like the shareware version of the game.

Fun setting, good and challenging combat, but you can really feel the early access cracks here.

The camera angle and items not fading to block your view happens too often. Textures and environments load extremely slow. The character and stash inventory management is an outright disaster, with not enough space on either end and too much travel time to the initial stash location. Daily challenges are the same every day, as far as I could tell There is no re-speccing so you can't really try different playstyles without playing extra time to level up.

Still reasonably excited for 1.0 when it comes around, but just not good enough now to play with so many other options this year.

Since all the reviews are shelved or negative I thought I'd leave my own XD

First: I finished the story around 13 hours, if you don't do daily/weekly quests or upgrade the city, you'll probably finish it in less time than that

The launch was really buggy and the game has had its performance issues but they've already made 3 patches since its release to fix these issues and incorporate feedback. I haven't had too many issues running the game, just occasional lag in the 12 hours I've played so far. I haven't encountered any bugs.

There is weapon/tool/gear durability in this game but they've incorporated some feedback on that to make them slightly more durable. And there is repair powder for it as well. Personally I dont like weapon durability at all

There is also no way to respec your character yet but I believe they said they are working on that in their discord

There is a teleporting mechanic but you can only travel from one waypoint to the city

There are daily and weekly challenges which I love, but so far there's not a lot of variety - it could be that I need to progress the game more

You can upgrade your city which takes real world time to do, and you can own a house and decorate it if you want to

The world and art is beautiful and I personally love the story. I also found the gameplay fun and challenging but not overly so

And I like how the world state changes over time

Overall it's not a bad game. I really enjoy it. But if you want a perfect game that plays perfectly - this game is not that at this moment. It is in early access with emphasis on early. That being said they are receptive to feedback and have been incorporating it rather quickly

"IT'S AN ISLAND, NOT A FAIRY TALE!!!" exclaimed the expendable Treasure Planet extra in the intro to this dark machewr fantasy story where the not-catholic church is as affable as usual (thank G*d, I hate subverted expectations!), later followed up by the stronk rebellious gUrl archetype yelling out and echoing the same very much evident sentiment. And naturally the following cutscene in this grounded tale has a cameo from everyone's favorite Dishonored assasination target portraying a DiDney villain (your royal highness Farquaad). The point I'm making is that this "Revolutionary ARPG taking inspiration from Diablo", where you start the game proper as a hobo washed up on a beach and go around punching crabs, is clearly made by earnest and most of all humble people not unwilling to own up to what kind of work this is. That being a "fantastical story" backed up by a score from the composer of soundtracks for the likes of Command & Conquer 4, F3AR, Tomb Raider 2013, plus all those horror stingers from Dead Space You fondly remember and didNot set the volume for to zer0. Instead of the guy who merely got a Jerry Goldsmith award for his previous work, whom a certain someone claimed would be doing the muzak for all of His studio's future titles.

ThatsRight boys+gurls the day has finally arrived, Runic Games has finally brought us the long-awaited successor to Dark Souls 2 Last Epoch Hob "Us gAmers" and all my fellow Torchlight fans definitely have been waiting for years for (yes I have indeed beaten the better of those two games on "HC" my fellow ARPG enJoYers, Dont Believ Me?????). Get ready to partake early in the next step in the evolution of action role-playing games by chopping down trees for crafting materials as you hunt for fat epic l00t such as apples or swords with riveting attributes like +20% damage against LARGE enemies, or ones with an ego as big as Thomas Mahler's (EAT YOUR HEART OUT NIOH DIABLO 4), so that the upcoming session of iframing through Defanatus the Sordid Executioner's attacks will hopefully end 20% sooner and in turn allow you to move on to the next fleeting distraction being advertised to you in your youtube subscription feed that much quicker.

Just like all the buzzword laden marketing speak promovideos on yootoob and blurbs on your favorite digital storefront purport, this topdown DarkSåul clone with exploration that's as rewarding as in the game they took the stamina wheel from (YaHaHa you found coppercoin$), and itemization that makes Diablo 4 look good in comparison, is a revolutionary take on the genre of games where you clip your sword through enemies because... it just is, OKAY!!! There's all sorts of much needed innovations here like magic that requires you to hit enemies with your stick to fill up your rage meter before you can cast a single heroic strike I mean fireball, an exciting progression system for unlocking more slots in each individual inventory tab, and of course player homes (SimS fans rejoice!) where you get show off to all your justin.tv viewers how close to the entrance you placed your stash and crafting stations that you had to commit deforestation for. I could bring up all sorts of constructive criticisms but that'd be quite redundant since this is an early access game after all, so ResT assured folx, the developers will arduously spend a lot of time on working up excuses for the lack of updates or changes to the unfinished game they've already managed to sell to you without any stated estimation or even a vague guess on how long "EA" might last in the roadmap they refer to. That happens to be a pedantic requirement about semantics mandated by GabeN bytheway, justice shall be servd to teh wickd.....

Ps: SalutationS to any&all gAmers!! go away and take your reactionary 'upvotes' with you, ThanX :~D
