Cool premise but the horrible fucking dialog tree and plot jumps that made no sense ruins it.

Writing up a review because one I forgot to write it back when I finished it and two this game has no reviews- best to have a perspective from someone who's beat it, eh?

Post Mortem is a game I'm really mixed on. I love the general atmosphere of the setting- most locations are dark and dreary and the soundtrack of the game is usually jazzy, which makes a really good atmospheric experience in my opinion. Gustav is an alright protagonist, he's pretty generic but overall a protagonist I did like and enjoy. My biggest issues with this game come with the gameplay itself. The puzzles are complete BULLSHIT. There's a lock puzzle earlier on when you're trying to break into a room, and it presents you with like 5 lockpicks and you just have to test for visual feedback when there are an ungodly amount of combos you can do, and the visual feedback isn't great. I couldn't get past this puzzle with a guide. Secondly, there are puzzles that WILL softlock you if you don't do them right. The painting one where you pick out the differences is one of those. Third, I was playing on a modern PC, so might be my issue, but I had one of the puzzles' visual feedback (you light a light over another painting) just not work. It was frustrating and I resorted to using a save file just past that one. There's also a pretty egregious measuring puzzle that hurts my head. I feel as if this game had some potential, just bad execution. It had a barely functioning system where different dialogue options would affect your gameplay, but nothing executed well. Even if it blatantly sucks, I really do like this game for the things it did right. Maybe I'm just too forgiving.
