A natural continuation of the first one. I am amazed at how they managed to stay consistent despite the 16 years gap.

That being said I like the first one more. This one tried to go with a more mature story and I feel it didn't manage to live up to the stakes. Still very beautiful and Peter McConnell's music is great.

Considerações finais

(Pontos Positivos)

-> Tive alguns pequenos bugs

From what I heard, it's kind of a wonder this game actually got released. I'm incredibly happy it did, though, because it immediately improves on all the failings of the original and thensome. The story is more heartfelt (not that I took issue with the previous in any way), and it addresses more of the failings the first had in regards to trauma, mental health issues, and how to address them. Not that there aren't some levels that miss, but the game is rarely lesser for it. One of the best platformers I've played.

Psychonauts 2 is, as a whole, a better game than the first one. 16 years passed between the releases, and this game makes it obvious its developers paid attention to the developments in the platforming genre that occured in this timespan, while still sticking close to the visual and tonal identity of the first game. It is a much more refined experience than its predecessor, which, although it does create minor problems, is largely good.

There are multiple big leaps being taken in this game, but largest and most obvious are the visuals. While the original got by on a unique visual style in the face of limited technology, this game operates on the same level of creativity, but with modern graphics. And my oh my, is it gorgeous. Easily one of the best looking games I've played, every stage, character and little gadget look perfect. The music continues in the same vein, expanding on the identity of the original themes with some solid new tracks.

Almost as important as the technical improvements, if slightly less clear at first sight, is the thematic depth this game offers. Whereas the first game was firmly rooted in a somewhat exaggerated view of mental illnesses and how they affect people, this game presents characters with much more nuanced conflicts and troubles, and the way they interact with each other is much more compelling, if not quite as funny and endearing. What sticks out in particular is how unflinchingly nice the game is. It is uncompromising in viewing each and every person, regardless of their actions, as a human being deserving of dignity and closure. Sure, the real world is a morally grey place, but the commitment to positivity and hope leaves an extremely strong impression.

Psychonauts 2 is a game that makes vast and impressive improvements upon the first game in a few key areas, but the impact this has is unfortunately diminished a little by quite a few small annoyances, plus a few larger ones. The throughline here is memorability, or the loss thereof. While many of the levels in P1 where erratic in progression and appearance, their quirks were what made the best of them shine so much. The new game cares not as much for gimmick stages, which, for once in gaming, ends up hurting it. The edges feel sanded off, and while there are fun stages here too, none reach the same height as the best in the first game. It also doesn't help that Raz feels momentumless at times, largely caused by the more reined in Bubble powerup, and the controls in general still lag behind better platformers of the modern area.

It is somewhat rergettable that P2 ends up being only a little better than the first, because in the areas it improves upon the first game, it REALLY improves. It has a compelling and touching story with great characters and solid pacing, and though its more streamlined design results in less interesting moment-to-moment gameplay, the experience is a smooth and pleasant one, and the game surfs along pretty well overall.

Psychonauts 2 was the kind of platformer I adore, with wildly imaginative (replayable) levels, quirky characters, and just all round fun. With a larger “base” map, it also had several themed levels of venturing into people’s minds and confronting their inner demons, and my goodness, the absolute insanity. It often required the use of swappable psychic powers to get around environmental puzzles and to also find hidden collectibles.

I have a soft spot for games like this; bright, colourful, whimsical, humorous. Even with dealing with somewhat sensitive topics it did so in a beautiful and respectful way, and I found myself comforted while playing.

game is truly amazing and gives so much old school vibe.
the plot may seem kinda childish but it is actually quite interesting enough. and the psychological themes covered are not childish at all even if they showed not too seriously.
i really do like art design, it is so fascinating. the variety of locations and their design is so good, they are unique and highly memorable.
however, I have encountered a bug in the game that I am unable to solve. i have reached the last boss fight, but their health bar does not move and seems like certain scripts do not activate. this has been quite frustrating, i wish i could do something to fix it, but it seems that I am the only person who has encountered this bug.
overall the game is really worth it, i hope there is more this type of stuff.

A fun 3D platformer that excelled in many things like the worlds, soundtrack, and characters. The collect-a-thon isn’t ridiculous and the difficulty felt just right.

Psychonauts 2 is a platforming treat, but I feel like it's lost something that the original had.

Don't get me wrong, it's a stunning game. Visually it's a marvel, it has some really great characters, wonderful soundtrack and some great level design.

My problem, which is a personal one and in no way detracts from the game, is that it lost the point n' click elements. The first game was very clearly made by LucasArts vets, and used the inventory system while solving puzzles, albeit lightly.

But it was levels like the Milkman and getting past the Orderly that made Psychonauts so memorable, it was a problem solving game, and it's a shame to see them move away from that (in their defence, it has been nearly 20 years.)

What Psychonauts loses in that aspect it makes up for everywhere else, and I really do hope we get to see more of this world again in the future.

The perfect sequel to one of my favorite games. The original style of the first game is recreated perfectly in this one. Level design complements the story even better with this one. Writing and dialog is top notch. Biggest complaint is the that the pin systems feels a bit superfluous.

Absolutely incredible in so many unique and varied ways I feel like I need Raz to enter my mind to sort out my thoughts into something more coherent than "IT'S REALLY GOOD! PLAY IT!" but, as long as he isn't around... it's really good! Play it!

Miracle game. This game not only improves its level design but it does better in dealing and talking about mental health than the first game. They remove the many useless abilities from the first and give better ones. Also the characters actually look good, though most of them look like muppets

its a little boring i think it started off kind of interesting though

I dunno man, something about it just didn't work for me. I liked the original, this just didn't have the same flavor.

GRULOVIA GRULOVIA!
In all seriousness, wonderful game about inter generational trauma and healing from it. All the interactions from the characters are great, and Raz is a very charming protagonist as always. Highly recommend playing it!

What do I even say about this? It's perfect and improves on its predecessor in every single way. My ideal sequel.

A completely worthwhile sequel that further explores the Psychonauts world and the characters within. The title is helped by the fact that it doesn't feel iterative, but rather expanding on the themes and characters of the first game. A must-play for those who have played the first game AND for those who haven't, too!

Just as good as the OG. It also has Jack Black this time!

More of the same from the first game only now there's a fun musical number.

For something this long and big it was never boring once.

One of the most imaginative platformers of the year. Writing is smart and witty, music super expressive, visual and level design never lacks, and combat super experimental. This is definitely a GOTY contender
