When this game was released I remember the reviews weren't as positive as the first two, but I found it to have a refined gameplay, a nice skill tree that allows for fun combat encounters and great map design. The only thing I really disliked were the excess of collectables (something that applies to almost all games likes this) and the writing (specially in regard to a big event at the beggining that should have a much bigger impact on the story).

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (SOTTR) is an action-adventure game released in 2018. and the Definitive Edition of the game was released in 2019 and includes all previously released content (weapons, outfits, skills and challenge tombs). The game is the last entry of the Survival Trilogy which started back in 2013. with Tomb Raider.

We follow Lara Croft three years after the story of Rise of the Tomb Raider (ROTTR) where she is trying to stop Trinity from taking the Dagger of Chak Chel before her. She managed to get it first, but she didn't know taking the Dagger would trigger the Cleansing, a Mayan apocalypse that ends in a permanent solar eclipse. To stop the apocalypse, she has to find the Silver Box of Ix Chel, but neither Lara nor Trinity (who soon takes over the Dagger from Lara) has it at that moment. So the larger part of the game will be her trying to find the Silver Box before Trinity and the culmination of the Cleansing.
When first starting the game, you will be prompted to choose the difficulty and unlike previous games, here according to your preferences, you can choose an overall difficulty option or separately choose Puzzle, Exploration and Combat difficulty. For those who want for example harder puzzles and easier enemies, you can choose that without any problem.
What you will also soon notice is that SOTTR survival elements aren't as important as stealth, which in ROTTR was the contrary. The resources aren't limited and at the end of the game, you will surely have at least one weapon in every category fully upgraded.
Also, as in previous games, you have additional optional and challenge tombs that most of the time have a gear requirement, but most of the tombs are now located in locations that you're going to revisit due to the main story and side missions that are given by mission givers. This in ROTTR was a small problem since I wanted to finish the tombs while I was exploring, but to be able to finish them, I needed a specific gear that I ended up getting after I had already left that location.
The core gameplay is similar to previous titles but also improved in every aspect. The story is also better than any other Tomb Raider game in my opinion. Both ROTTR and SOTTR has a great story, but I liked SOTTR's story a bit more.
You can buy weapons, resources, and both weapon and inventory upgrades with money found by looting enemies or exploring. The Peruvian landscape is beautiful and full of wonders to see, making this the best looking Tomb Raider game so far.

The additional seven challenge tombs which are included in the Definitive Edition of the game can be found in the Challenge Tombs section of the Main menu and in the game itself are found as side quests given by mission givers with a yellow circle in the lower right corner of the marker. These tombs and missions last longer and they are a little bit more difficult and unlike normal optional tombs, a loading screen is shown when entering the tomb. Also, when you finish the tomb there isn't a way out, but you'll be immediately taken back to the spot you were before entering the tomb. The tombs overall are great and offer additional hours while going through the main story.

All in all the best game in the Tomb Raider's Survival trilogy, offering a great story, great gameplay, great setting and graphics. Stealth is greatly improved, and it is probably the most important aspect of the game while tuning down the survival elements which aren't the main aspect as it was in ROTTR, which makes sense when taking in mind the locations where the story unfolds.

“We all create our destiny.”

What does Jonah actually do? I understand he’s a moral touchstone, but what is his purpose on these trips? He just gets captured and chats to people.

Alas, thankfully this game focuses more on puzzles and traversal than its weaker suit of combat. The challenge tombs, just as was the case in the previous game, are the key highlight and they are more than worth finding - even if the use of rope as a solution does become somewhat repetitive. They are also surprisingly difficult at times, a welcome change.

The story is highly convoluted. I wasn’t entirely sure why I was fighting particular foes or where in the timeline we were regularly. The last outing had a more compelling tale with an at least vaguely sensible plot. This follows something along similar lines but jumps right overboard with it. There is an entire section where you are allegedly acting undercover as a local priest/warrior and yet you are speaking cut glass English with the complexion of a European. We all suspend disbelief with videogames but that was truly peculiar.

Lara’s moral purpose seems to waver throughout and not in a way that was intriguing. There was an interesting point where the main adversary asks Croft “and what of all the people you have killed, and why” (paraphrased) to which I can only thoroughly agree. Aren’t you meant to be an archaeological researcher? Why are you slaughtering nomadic people who only have bows and arrows? This kind of chaos makes more sense for haphazard Nathan Drake or when Croft was killing mercenaries in Siberia, but at times it is jarring in this outing as you are in essence intruding on a relatively peaceful land.

For all this, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is truly beautiful and the climbing mechanics are probably just as good as Uncharted at this point. You really do lose yourself in the wonders of the Peruvian landscape and there are some very striking underwater scenes too. Just bear in mind that collecting everything in this game affords you almost nothing extra - by the end Croft is borderline invincible. Buy shotgun shells with your cash, not more weapons that do the same thing.

hotter, gayer, and way more culturally insensitive thoughts with way better graphics. not recommended for people who find brunettes attractive (she will ruin you and she's not even real).

im lara crofts biggest fan
if this is your first tomb raider game in the survivor series (it was mine) i am so so sorry this is the most confusing game in the world and nothing even makes sense gameplay or story-wise if you haven't played the previous ones
but after playing the others i actually understand this one and its awesome wahoo!

I have a few big complaints:
1. I detest the forced "slow walk while random shit happens in the background and characters give you plot" sequences, they're so slow and controlling.
2. The petty way that the game forces you to wear certain outfits during a majority of the game.
3. Jonah.
4. Trinity is a super boring villain, I didn't care for any of the antagonists in this one.
5. The grappling axe has a very inconsistent range.

Nonetheless, I thought the game was so amazing to look at and explore, a marked improvement from "Rise," where I was bored into a migraine with its aggravating, eye-sore snow landscapes. The controls were mostly very easy to manage, there weren't too many cheap jumps and nonsense that slowed down the game. The plot was mediocre, I don't believe for a minute that the devs actually consulted with religious scholars and smart anthropologists to write the plot, but I enjoyed the childhood flashbacks and the underground people. Overall, a decent way to end the trilogy.

A visually stunning game with masterfully crafted environments and intelligent puzzle design. Combat sucks regarding stealth mechanics; AI automatically know your precise location after losing track of you whilst hiding, so you're better off going full John Wick with the shotgun and fully upgraded Vicar Mark II. The story is okay and wraps up the trilogy fine, if not a little lacking in some regard.

Sıkıcı ama olsun Lara Croft var.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a visually stunning game with breathtaking graphics. The gameplay, while enjoyable, falls slightly short, lacking innovation and becoming repetitive at times. However, the game shines in its captivating narrative and worldbuilding, exploring themes of sacrifice and consequences while delivering a rich and immersive experience.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was my favorite of the reboot series. Having played them back to back, I was happily surprised at the level of improvements as the titles evolved. I beat Shadow on the Deadly Obsession difficulty and was challenged greatly as unlike the last game's Extreme Survivor difficulty, you lose your survival instincts and can't see a lot of enemies or where to climb without use of herbs.

The story is set in Peru and covers a lot of Maya & Inca histories from the lives of the people to their beliefs. The game covers multiple large maps and has a lot of life in the cities/towns you visit. Trying to stop the end of the world gives Lara the motivation to push forward as so many people have been lost because of what she believes she caused with removing an artifact in the opening tomb. To stop the destruction, she has to find a second artifact and stop the cult that she has known as the organization, Trinity.

The upgrade system to gear is simple and easy to work through by hunting and gathering materials or selling and buying components to level up your weapons and outfits. A lot of them have bonuses and if you play the Definitive Edition like I did, you will get a good amount of weapons to start the game and can still find worth in upgrade others as they can outshine the bonus ones.

My biggest issue with this title was some lighting glitches in tombs and cutscenes, the game feels very dark even on the brightest settings. However, the loading issue that Rise of the Tomb Raider had was thankfully fixed for this title.

I hope to see more from the new Lara in the future. I finished the game at 100% completion but missed one combat achievement and played a few DLC tombs but got frustrated with the full level resets due to me playing on Deadly Obsession. I'll return for the. In the future, maybe on my New Game+ file.

A última aventura dessa nossa Lara (2013-2019)

I heard from sources online that this game wasn't very good, but I liked it much more than I thought. The parts that I didn't like were the puzzles, which at times were quite hard to solve, and the fact I can't jump and then press X to grab onto surfaces like you could in Rise of the Tomb Raider (I liked this as I made the climbing a bit faster). Apart from that I liked the characters and story and only encountered a weird audio glitch, where the dialogue and subtitles wouldn't work (restarting the game solved this every time).

I still recommend it even if you have doubts, it's usually quite cheap on Steam and if you're going to play the first 2 games, you might as well finish the trilogy.

I enjoyed this game quite a lot, but I would argue that it is objectively not as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider.

There were a lot of deaths in this game versus the others, and almost all of them were due to messy platforming or frustrating sections of the game involving piranhas!

The restriction of costume in the Hidden City makes sense thematically but is a frustrating limitation in a game where so many costumes are thrown at you but you can't use them for a good 40% of the runtime.

Overall though, the story was great and the bonus challenge tombs in the Definitive Edition were a great addition.

Definitely the best way to play this game. The DLC puzzles are good and honestly should've been included in the main game. There are also story bits that would've helped the main narrative, too, if they had been part of the main game's side quests.

Still fun, but lackluster end to the trilogy.
