Very obviously an arcade game ported directly to consoles with about one hour of content available wrapped in one of the worst soundtracks I have ever heard. Even with these drawbacks, the visual spectacle of driving straight up the Empire State Building and ramming King Kong off the side of the building to cut 5 seconds off your time cannot be understated.

fun game with bumch of crazy stuff goin on

MAN what a disappointment ngl. I saw rebeltaxi cover this and was promised a zany crazi-taxi esque racing game where you destroy anyone and anything in your path to get to your destination, but in reality I just got a mid-paced racing game where you need to rely on and use every shortcut to stand a chance proceeding. The shortcuts are indeed wacky and wild as I was hoping, but the game doesn't really do a good job telling you which buildings are actually destructable and which aren't, which led me to focus instead on driving the main path, which isn't what the game actually wants me to do since all the powerups and stuff are in the shortcuts. This game could have easily been bumped up a few points in my book if the speed was faster, the roads were wider, the shortcuts more apparent, and if the soundtrack was a lot louder, like crazy taxi. All in all, this game could have been something great as a quick arcade thrill ride, but instead naw man there are better arcade racers out there. zamn.

Superb port of an arcade game people think is like Crazy Taxi but is more Out Run with mad shortcuts! Extended play rewarded by seeing more wow moments. I'm yet to see them all. Crash into King Kong's bits!

I'm yet to play the GBA version.

Very impressive for the hardware, too bad it doesn't play well

at one point in my dim memories of this game i remember driving up the side of the empire state building and knocking king kong off of it

Some fun and chaotic moments, but it’s barebones, arcade-hard, and lacks the charm and Offspring of its contemporaries.

This game has some of the worst music I've ever heard. Seriously, listen to this.

I was going through some old Gamecube demo discs and a trailer for this game was in a "coming soon" montage. It immediately grabbed my eye - I love arcade racers, especially colorful ones with loads of crashes and power-ups.

Well it turns out the Gamecube version of this is a fairly barebones port of the arcade game with a fair share of jank and terrible music. With that said, there's something really fun and exhilarating about taking the design principles of something like Outrun, then adding a boatload of shortcuts, power-ups, and visual flair. I really enjoyed this despite the short runtime.

Definitely check out the GBA port too - it's one of the most impressive 1 to 1 ports and 3d racers that I've seen on GBA

Carrion but if it was in New York

The only other taxi game in existence that isn't called Crazy Taxi. Other ones probably do exist, but I've never heard of any besides Smashing Drive. Even so, it doesn't play like Crazy Taxi, having a much more linear design and objective. Basically there's only 3 main courses, with their own tracks, and it's up to you to figure the best way to go while seeing the giant upgrade bubbles on display.

The game basically encourages you to try going for any alternate route you can find, as your "competitor" bot takes the boring route, but that's mostly a non-issue as the time is your real enemy. Alternate routes usually help you reach your destination at a faster time, and they're also the more exciting paths as well.

Not too much to say about the game in general. It's alright to play, but nothing too remarkable either. The soundtrack has this weird alt-techno/rock vibe that sounds insanely y2k. I think this game was trying to depict a taxi cab of the future, but even that I'm not sure about.

This game only has one goal, get to the end no NO MATTER WHAT.

Drive through buildings, blow up cars, drive up a skyscraper while knocking King Kong off it smash through a window bust through an elevator and drive the whole way down as fire and explosions fallow you.
The Smashing Drive Car is the most Chaotic Evil object in all the video games, if you stuck in a burning building and The Smashing Drive Car bursts through you better get out of his way because he'll run you down.

The game is a chaotic spectacle the likes of which I've never seen before.
