glad to have more sonic rush gameplay, felt a bit annoying to have to sail the sea all the time though.

While a little less polished than its predecessor, it is still a masterful game worth recommending to any Sonic fan.

I like it but I prefer Sonic Rush slightly more.

When I was a teenager, I was obsessed with Sonic. Any game I could get my hands on I played over and over again - Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, even Shadow the Hedgehog. Another game I had around that time was the first Sonic Rush, and I think the fact I barely remember playing it says a lot about my opinions of it. Decades later though, I've decided to try out its sequel, Sonic Rush Adventure. This game, for lack of a better word, is mid. Everything about it is just mediocre. The earlier levels do allow you to maintain your sense of speed, but at the cost of having some very bland level design. The later levels overcompensate for this, and are a classic example of awful Dimps design. Bullshit death bits, finicky platforming sections, all while not being really interesting at all. The best part of this game might be the short sailing minigames, as there is a world map for you to explore (although there's not much there for you to find). The game does require a little bit of grind to progress at a few places, but I never had to replay anything other than the first two levels, so I might have gotten lucky. The plot as well is pretty worthless. Blaze returns, but doesn't have her own campaign, unlike the original Sonic Rush, and newcomer Marine is kinda fun, but constantly disrespected by the rest of the party. All-in-all, I can finally say that I've played through this game, but I think I was right in not picking it up back when it was new.

I wish that Marine would appear in more games, she's great

Good but would be better without having to grind

Definitely one of the best 2D Sonic games minus the forced replayabilty for grinding materials, and the sailing might not be what you'd want out of a Sonic game, but I didn't mind it too much. Rush Adventure basically improves on everything from the first game such as more fair level design with there being less bottomless pit spam, and the boss fights are some of the best in the series as it perfectly adapts the classic philosophy of the bosses being faster the more skilled you are and vice versa, unlike in Rush where you just have to wait around just dodging attacks before you get another chance to hit the boss. The only part that the first game really does better in aside from pacing, is the soundtrack, though that's debatable. I prefer the Rush 1 soundtrack but Rush Adventure still has some great stuff! Overall a fantastic game in general; would highly recommend this one if you haven't played it already.

I honestly have to wonder what the thought process behind this game's creation was, like...

It's no secret Sonic games are generally on the shorter side, the previous Rush game only took me about 7 hours to beat both Sonic and Blaze's campaigns and get all chaos emeralda and, I'm someone who'll restart a level a dozen times if they feel like they're not playing it well.

Did the original Rush mostly get rented instead of bought by players? Was it a game that people traded-in frequently at gamestop? It feels like a lot of the design decisions made with Rush Adventure were a result of something like that.

The vehicle sections, the crafting system that'll require to finish stages multiples of times, the overly obnoxious and long boss battles, it all feels somewhat like padding.

Still, when it comes to the Zones, the level design, I'd say it's generally an improvement over the first game!

The high highs are still there with really fun levels like Haunted ship and Pirates' Island, oh and Blizzard Peaks is actually one of the best Sonic levels ever made; the only level that's really any bad is Sky Babylon, the rest are really fun to play!

The hidden islands as well are super cool, they basically add an extra act to each of the levels as well as a brand new zone, they were really fun to pnay through!

The vehicles you use to discover and reach the levels though... are a bit of mixed bag, the water bike and hovercraft I found really fun! While the sailboat and the submarine especially felt incredibly boring.

And unfortunately, due to the game's structure, you'll find yourself using the sailboat the most out of all the vehicles, which... is pretty unfortunate.

I think it'd have been a lot better if you only had the water bike to use and for you to upgrade it over the game to make it faster and travel longer but, it is what it is.

One really odd thing about this game is how you're allowed to pick your character at the start of each level as opposed to it being split into two campaigns which, considering that Blaze is just a better Sonic, is kind of a dumb design decision, I think they should've redesigned her to make her play more distinctly if they were gonna let you always be able to pick her.

And speaking of characters and the story in general, it's honestly pretty bad compared to the first game, feels like the plot to a saturday morning cartoon, but... at least Marine is pretty funny.

What I'm trying to say with all this rambling is, this game is really fucking good, but god does it feel really disconnected and unfocused, I think you should give it a try, but if you find yourself getting bored of all the backtracking and vehicle stuff, just download a completed save file from the internet to play the rest of the zones.

I haven't gotten all the Chaos Emeralds and gotten the true ending yet but I got the normal ending and this game is really good
The music isn't as good as the first Rush game but it's still good. And the level design is slightly better than Rush. The biggest improvement is the boss battles though. I love (most) of the bosses in this game, especially the one with the colored wrecking balls you have to knock into, that one is sooo fun. The ocean exploration aspect is pretty cool too, although I could've done without the materials and the crafting and all that. But drawing your path with the stylus and finding the secret islands and stuff is really novel. I can't tell whether I like this game or Rush better. I'm leaning more towards Rush maybe

Music takes a hit but everything else about this one is so cool, I grew up with this one and played it the most out of every other ds game I had. The levels are great and fun to replay. The map is fun to explore and the vehicles are fun to use and upgrade. The new world is also really cool and Interesting I really wish we had another sonic game to take place in Blaze's dimension. Highly recommend.

slightly better than previous entry, opinions still stand!

Some missions were ungodly frustrating (never managed to finish some last ones to finally 100% be done with this), but had so much fun with this. An amazing sequel!

Much worse than the first game

"Life starts with a sunny day! Let's feel our ocean breath! We are crusin' ocean seas! Can't wait for a New Venture!" - A New Venture, the Title Theme.

Entry number two of the marvelously underrated Rush Trilogy still gives the adrenaline filled 2D platforming I've really been looking for from the Blue Hedgie's repertoire. This game, along with it's siblings (Rush and Colors DS), are the original masterminds of the now infamous Boost formula. The top notch platforming originating from the dream team of Sonic Team and Dimps just feels fantastic to blur through. Add an amazing soundtrack and fun nautical themed minigames in between and you've got a solid 2D package. To any Sonic fan stumbling upon this review, check out the Sonic Rush Trilogy if you haven't already! You're missing out on something way past cool!

Pedrada.

I convinced people that hate this game lack the gusto to commit to marriage

The grinding is a little annoying but at least the levels are fun, and the boss fights are way better thankfully. If they can't get Hideki Naganuma back for Jet Set 3, Tomoya Ohtani would probably do great, this soundtrack is so much better than I was expecting when I heard they couldn't get Naganuma back.

I did not know that this was an RPG

Tomoya Ohtani heard Sonic Rush's soundtrack and said "HUM I CAN DO THAT SHIT TOO!" and proceeded to do not as great, but pretty damn stellar nonetheless. Boss theme makes me weak.

how is this game worse than rush 1 in literally every way how does sonic team do it man

It's Sonic. But with the mechanics of boats and boats and motorboats and jet skis, honestly the change always seemed interesting to me, nice sequel

Sonic Rush was one of the most fun Sonic games I ever actually played all the way through, so naturally I was super excited for the sequel. Whenever Rush Adventure did what Rush did, it was pretty much just as good. The levels were fun, the movement was great, and the OST was amazing! So why didn't I rank it as high as the original?

Because of everything that wasn't like Rush. I'm probably gonna sound like one of those "ah the first game is always way better" losers but I do think that some of the new mechanics and gameplay portions just aren't nearly as fun as the main gameplay and drag down the experience a bit. Sailing is fun at first, but quickly becomes super boring and repetitive even with the game's attempts to diversify it once in a while, and goooood was collecting the Chaos Emeralds utterly and completely painful to do. Collecting materials wasn't all that bad but it felt to me more like forcing you to replay levels every now and then than an actual cool new addition to the gameplay loop. Just not a lot of fun going on in between the main levels, which is really unfortunate.

Some of the levels are designed a bit better than the first game and the bosses are a bit better also. Still has some great music but grinding for ship parts or playing that mini game everytime did get a little annoying.

A good 2D sonic platformer and the second game in the series to introduce the boost mechanic. The level design is good, the sailing portions are fun and plenty of content. However I think the game lacks good boss fights and the story is just bare bones, but still fun to play.
