Played it once and I guess it didn't leave an impression on me. It was alright, I guess?

genuinely curious as to why younger me enjoyed this game so much because it gets insanely repetitive and fast

Wonderfully ingenious and by far the most creative puzzle game I've ever played!

This feels like a fake game you'd see in a shitty Canadian animated kids show

honestly pretty fun and has surprising depth for a game about sushi

It is really fun and charming but WOW it gets repetitive. I never finished it because I felt like nothing was changing the whole time.

with that quantities of sushi, everyone in this series should have an indigestion or something

It's fun and the story's funny. Not much else but I like it for what it is.

The best monster collecting RPG released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Sushi Striker's mechanics are shockingly deep. What starts as a simple swipe-and-match game gets more and more complex in a way that really keeps you interested. It's not something I can sit down and play for hours, but 30-60 minutes every day has been a blast.

First off, this story is ridiculous in the best way. You are fighting for the liberation of Sushi against an empire that's bogarting it all for themselves. Sushi is constantly described as being the most delicious food to ever exist, and every time you unlock a new dish, my mouth waters. (I got sushi yesterday as a direct result of playing this game)

In the gameplay, you have three conveyor belts of sushi plates in front of you, three in front of your opponent, and a shared 7th belt in the middle that you can each draw from. You have to connect chains of matching plates to eat the sushi. The plates are stacked in front of you, and you throw them at your opponent to attack. The taller the stacks of empty plates, the higher the damage.

As the game goes on, you unlock new powers from Sushi Sprites (little magical creatures who assist you in battle) that change how you play the game. You can have up to three of them active in any given battle, and you level them up to improve their powers. You can build dedicated loadouts of Sprites based around your playstyle, and this customization is what really stops the game from becoming dull. You can also equip useable items for battles, and special "gears" affect how the conveyor belts can be manipulated.

This game is dirt cheap a lot of the time. I picked up a copy on eBay for $7. If you're interested in a unique, charming battle puzzler and can find it under $10, it's definitely worth trying out!

Fairly addictive gameplay but feels a little too shallow.
Story is appropriately fun and silly with plenty of comedic moments and ends a surprisingly thoughtful note on the dangers of overfishing.

It's just a little bit better than Pokemon Shuffle. Also, keep in mind that it is for kids

Funny, with a bit of a Rhythm Heaven / Warioware vibe to the cutscenes, but the puzzle element doesn't quite work and you just end up frantically mashing. Still enjoyable, but I never felt like I was playing it properly.
