A hypnotic and adrenaline-inducing nightmare that had my hands sweating the entire time. Self-described as a "rhythm violence" video game, it earns that title with every earth-shattering combo and terrifying eldritch entity you face.
The game does a great job of introducing its simple control scheme, its straightforward (but deceptively flexible) mechanics, and its terrifying tone all at a steady pace so not as to overwhelm you at first. However, it isn't afraid to let loose in its later levels once your confidence builds up.
Had a lot of fun S-Ranking each level, can't wait to see what the developers decide to do next.

A wonderful rhythm game. It's a liiiitle bit overhyped in terms of -what- it is, but it is mesmerizing, challenging if you get obsessed with getting S-rank, and visually sleek and impressive. The music is also great, with the in-game sound effects. I was pretty disappointed to find it's more minimal without the various clangs and swooshes of the space bug.
Finally got around to playing this challenging and hyperactive music violence game. While the rhythmic element might not be as apparent as other rhythm games, the industrial and intense soundscapes evolve into complete cacophony as each stage progresses. In VR, Thumper is unlike anything I’ve ever played. The visual activity is insane and completely enrapturing. If you haven’t seen this game in action, especially in VR, Thumper is unreal and lives up to the genre of “rhythm violence” that it created.
