Bio
Video games sure are fun.

If you're wondering why it takes me years to complete some games, I like to jump around playing multiple games. Sometimes ill drop a game for a while, then come back to it and finish it.

A hypnotic and adrenaline-inducing nightmare that had my hands sweating the entire time. Self-described as a "rhythm violence" video game, it earns that title with every earth-shattering combo and terrifying eldritch entity you face.

The game does a great job of introducing its simple control scheme, its straightforward (but deceptively flexible) mechanics, and its terrifying tone all at a steady pace so not as to overwhelm you at first. However, it isn't afraid to let loose in its later levels once your confidence builds up.

Had a lot of fun S-Ranking each level, can't wait to see what the developers decide to do next.

In ways Haven is the yang to Furi's yin. While Furi focused on visceral combat with light character development, Haven is all about the romance between its two lead characters with combat as a supplementary element.

The chemistry between the two leads is definitely the strong point for me. Yu and Kay are such fleshed-out and lovable characters that it's easy to understand and care about these people as they struggle to maintain their relationship against all odds. Also, the combat being easier when properly using both characters in sync only further reinforce their connection and need for each other.

With most of the gameplay being light exploration, I feel that there was room to tighten up the game and make it feel less like filler. Additionally, I wish they challenged Yu and Kay's relationship more, as the best moments of the game involved their relationships struggles. It feels like wasted potential.

In the end, a solid if unbalanced entry that I see myself replaying.

Easily the most ambitious of Supergiant's games, there is a lot to love and respect. Clever "combat" design, a diverse soundtrack, and a large cast of interesting characters lend this story of leadership, responsibility, and hope so much heart.

The one thing holding this back from being a slam-dunk for me is its pacing. I could never get into a flow state with this one like I could with Transistor or Hades. Whether that had to do with its uneven story structure or my unfamiliarity with Oregon Trail style games is something I have to figure out.

In any case, this is still a fantastic outing from Supergiant, and I hope they continue making heartfelt games like these into the future.
