Definitely a warm-up, prototypical Prince of Persia with guns. It's visually, sickeningly green at times with plastic trees as the summit of 2006' forest aesthetic. Some of it's shoddy physicality didn't age well, the granade throw control-tilt gimmick sort of amused me back in the day, but also added to it's hellish clunkiness. Cute parts alongside the simplicity of third-person combat, somewhat struggles with things like an abhorrently difficult motorboat sequence. Very much paves the way for it's infinitely more polished sequels.
I wanted to quit the game several times because I found the combat system and the sheer amount of shooting passages unbearable. Unfortunately, the first part of the series still has a very strong focus on action and I really didn't enjoy it at all. However, the story, characters and atmosphere were very entertaining and simply...charming. I was definitely looking forward to the next installment and was glad to have stuck with it.
It's okay and I enjoyed it for the most part, but it really didn't age well, while a lot of other, similar games from the time period did. I found the sneaking mechanics to be painfully underdeveloped and the combat could get very repetitive.
The main character is also extremely unlikeable. He's such a freaky little dickhead. Couldn't really get into his story, but hopefully that changes in the next game.
There's a boss battle towards the end that was super underwhelming and I was really hoping it would more than just pressing a few buttons. I think my rating would be higher if it were fleshed out more.
Overall, it was an enjoyable game I had fun with, but I'm sure the next installments will be significantly better. I really liked the weird twist towards the end. The enemies start getting really silly and crazy and it added a lot of spice to a game that was getting pretty dull for me.
