Admitely, I'm not the biggest enthuasiast regarding the Virtua Fighter series but decided to give this a go since I enjoy trying fighting games of different franchises and fighting gameplay styles. Even though the game is solid, the characters and gameplay did not do a whole lot for me in terms of first impressions.
I don't know what people see in this series. Everything is so bland. Characters, music, stages and cringe voice lines. I know fighting is the most important point and while it's not terrible, it's functional. There just nothing here to wow me. Reminds me of Marvel Infinite and Playstation All stars when it comes to overall package. You wanna play a 3D fighter play tekken or even gawd DOA.
Kino's final showdown.
It's weird. It looks the same, sounds the same (aside from the music) but lots of mechanical changes as well as ones relating to character inputs make it feel like a different game. Like it's VF6 without actually being VF6. Not saying it's a bad thing but it's something I just realized recently.
MTE (Multiple Throw Escapes) are removed as well as VF5 vanilla's Throw Clash. Throw Escapes in general has been made easier as well as combos. Evading has had tweaks and jumping is finally not so awkward to do (Guard+Up for a regular jump).
I'd say some of those are legitimate improvements. But outside of the core gameplay, the game kind of reeks of cheap downloadable title. Less single player content meaning no quest mode replaced with simple trials which is something I guess. Cool thing is you can change sound tracks to previous games and revisions.
Costume customization is pretty cool as well. Not the deepest but you can still make the character unrecognizable.
All in all, great base game, meh single player stuff. I really hope they improve those things around next time! :)

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is like a gift for old-school fighting game fans. It's got that classic Virtua Fighter depth and challenge, where matches are all about reading your opponent and landing a perfect combo. The graphics aren't fancy, and the online's a bit janky, but this feels like a pure fighting game experience. If you miss the technical skill of those older arcade fighters, you'll love this, but be warned, it's tough!
Completing Yakuza games has forced me to play this game for several hours and I can gladly say it's just Tekken in worse. Not the worst fighting game I've played, but the boring characters, unintuitive gameplay and an unfair secret chapter really don't make me want to play VF5 out of free choice. Still fairly enjoyable for some reason...?
