This is one of the weaker fmv games. It's very tongue in cheek and leans into its stupid story, but it takes a long time to run through replays and get other endings. It's not really worth the hassle.
It dosent take itself seriously so it was enjoyable. But not that great overall.

chardee macdennis 3 is fucked up

Why did I think this was going to be good?

the main character here is annoying and the ending is some r/raisedbynarcissists creative writing tool but not a lot of games use fmv to their full advantage these days so bravo

The concept of this FMV is pretty common - whodunit.

A single play through is fairly quick you can get pretty lucky with some guessing but it’s also interesting to see other endings knowing you are doing the “wrong one”

I feel like plot was trope after trope and I immediately guessed the would be killer and what the reason was before even hitting play.

I had fun working through the the dialogue - at first. Then it becomes a chore. It at least felt more random with which choice would spark the evidence and there’s a chance not getting evidence could still prove right for the next dialogue depending which characters you choose to interact with - finally unlocking evidence after missing would feel good and most of the evidence made you want to see where the accusations could go. Plus you can probably 100% in a single play through to add that accolade to your profile.

The skip function was complete garbage. It worked so poorly and you could skip choosing an answer so easily but you were forced to see the exact same sections every single time - and to complete the game I think I replayed it a dozen or so times (mostly from accidentally skipping the one main answer that immediately ends the game)

I think it would be fun to play with friends instead of watching a movie to help remember which things you’ve asked and when you talked to characters so it was less like to repeat a lot of the same things that didn’t advance the game.

Anyway worth the play through but I wish the characters weren’t all so repulsive and it was easier to skip things you have to see each play through and wish you had more of a chance to use unlocked evidence to question someone else - this triggered automatically and only a handful of times I remember it happening. Unlike other games that give you the option to use it. Would have been cool if people lied and you could use evidence to call them out and get more info. Overall though it’s worth the cost of a movie rental.

I would press mute on every single character except Uncle Marcus

probably the worst fmv i have played, one star for uncle marcus tho cus he's hot

Pretty fun, I wanted to complete it on 100%.

it's fun but you gotta grind to get all the endings AKA rewatch the same videos a thousand times. nah.

Could have been good. Is not.

The game start with really good premise : it's a murder mystery BEFORE the murder ; everyone is on zoom, for a quizz cut in round, so the weird almagation of dialog feel less akward, and the lack of gameplay action you can do is more legitimate in universe.

But the FMV fail very hard for 3 reasons :

- the character.
If the actor are not that bad (in FMV standard I would say, the overacting is not really a problem) it's the writing who is. Each character is mean to be an archetype or caricatural af, but they end up just uninspired and destroy the "emotional part" of the game. Even the relation web between each member of the family feel hollow.

- the replaybility :
The game is made to be played again and again, to gather clue. You cannot beat the game in any other way. So, they think of allowing you to skip part you already see. But if one part of a three part section is new, they will make you see the whole section, including the two part you've already seen. And this happen A LOT. So, it's get tedious very quickly.

Plus, you have to make different choice each time, but it's hard to keep track of every one you made. The game is not too complex, but when you have to look for the right clue to accuse one character, it's get really annoying.

- the final :
For a murder mystery, it's a shame that's part is bad. It should be the cumulation of everything you discover thus far, justifying other aspect of the game, or at least, making rewatching the game a new experience with your new knowledge. But neh, in this game, it's just solve two random sentence says in very particular and specific section. And it didn't feel compeling at all ! (ok, the way it's film, with the final part after the discovery, is compeling, but way too cheap).

Finally : they're many ending, and on them, only 2 are so bad to make you laugh. Disapointing for a FMV.

This game is currently in the Humble Choice for September 2023, and this is part of my coverage of the bundle. If you are interested in the game and it's before October 3rd, 2023, consider picking up the game as part of the current monthly bundle.

A family quiz night involving attempted murder.

Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus is about a woman whose Uncle Marcus has been poisoned, she has to try to find out who poisoned him in the family, but needs to figure it out based on learning about what happened in a recent family gathering. This is all acted out over what appears to be Zoom calls, with an array of colorful characters, and a dysfunctional family that constantly seems to be fighting in a silly but enjoyable way. It’s a lot like a trashy Soap Opera or Teen Drama. But I like trashy Soap Operas and Teen Dramas.

With that said, there’s limited gameplay, mostly choosing between two or three options. It appears the story needs to be played multiple times to learn all the evidence and figure out who committed the crime, and while it’s well acted, it’s a bit limited in what it can do with everything focused on Zoom calls, likely because it was filmed during the pandemic. While the concept is good, this will likely only take people a few hours to see everything. However, I will say that the game does allow players to skip scenes, which is very much appreciated.

Pick this up if you enjoyed Five Dates, or at least saw the promise in it. This is a better game, and with the story and concept, it’s more interesting, but it’s by the same company. However the production values here are a bit higher and the story has me more entertained, also there are a few recognizable actors here.. This is also a bit like Late Shift, or most of the FMV games that Wales Interactive puts out. I did finish one playthrough but need at least a couple more to uncover the truth.

Also just a heads up, there’s a decent amount of swearing in this game, and bad behavior, it is a mature soap opera after all. So this is definitely for mature audiences.

Another fun FMV filmed during lockdown, but this time it comes with a murder mystery twist! Someone from Abby's family had poisoned Uncle Marcus in the last family meeting she missed, and now Uncle Marcus has asked her to figure out who it was from her family.

The story happens during a yearly family quiz, which is always held on Abby's mom's birthday. The acting is mediocre, but it's improved with the over the top character personalities and the hilarious conversations the family has which make you laugh with the characters and their funny, dark humor.

As a real fan of FMV games, this one is definitely up there with the quality of the clips and the way they feel very coherent together even with the choices in between. Definitely a recommend from me!

Bought this almost a year ago. Tried it one time and still haven't touched it again.

Aunty Jane criticises your character for not actually being clever, instead simply choosing the right answer out of a 50/50 probability - and I felt like this was what the game was for the most part, a series of 50/50 answers that happen to be right.

Whether or not your answer was able to get a response that gave you a clue rarely had anything to do with the characters you were engaging with. Mum likes to be flattered and Aunty Jane likes to win, but otherwise, character responses felt random + continuity between conversations, rare.

Actors were really good. It had some really funny moments, but just never really interested me very much while playing it

The performances were really good. Maybe skipping on further playthroughs could have been done in a better way? I burnt out so fast instead of wanting to actually solve this thing.

Andy Buckley is awesome.
