This could very well be the first video game I ever played, when I was about six years old. It was a favorite of my dad's when he was in law school. He would draw me maps of the levels which I would study closely, but my coordination wasn't quite there yet to finish the game. Despite its many flaws I'll always view it nostalgically as an excellent fantasy adventure.
A piss poor action platformer. There's fall damage in this game, and it's pretty inconsistent, I can just walk off a ledge and fall a small distance, and somehow take damage, and sometimes not, which doesn't make any sense and it's very annoying in general. There's practically no I-frames and the enemies will drain your health fast, and you will die from quick enemies that assault you from offscreen like bats. The screen is tiny, but the sprites are large, creating screen crunch and a lot of trial and error. There are no continues, and the soundtrack is repetitive, making for a mind numbing experience. Best to avoid this.
When I was a kid I could never get past level 1 in this game so, it was fun to finally get to the end. The game is pretty impressive feeling and looking on gameboy. That being said it’s difficulty is pretty unfair in a lot of ways. Definitely the kind of game where a youtuber in 2012 would have made a video complaining about the lack of saves and the fact that this is chapter X and there was never a chapter iii-ix in this series. It’s still kind of charming tho
