A mix of action platforming and schmup gameplay, inspired by seemingly every successful franchise of the late 80s. It very much feels like a greatest hits CD, but that variety is what also keeps it engaging.

A solid Nes game that is solid in the platforming as well as the shmup sections. Haven't finished the game all the way through, but maybe I should. I enjoyed what I played so far.

One of 3 games my cousin had for his NES. Underrated little platformer with pretty chill music. I might even call it a hidden gem.

Ultimately, the two part gameplay cycle of Xexyz contains some pretty good shooting, and some pretty poor platforming. Yet it's the combination of both ideas that grants Xexyz the strength and the game's structure commitment to ensuring both ideas get the same amount of spotlight is what makes Xexyz stand out. It's not perfect. and the repetition is costly, but in another world some developer has used this structure to create a Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards winning roguelike

Highly underrated gem of the 8bit era, definitely not for everyone, but I'd put it up there with the likes of Blaster Master as far as games that successfully merge genres, and it has a nice difficulty to it, plus I love the soundtrack.
