Look, I love the original version of Minecraft, but this version was borderline unplayable. It has to rely on touch screen controls which make the simple act of walking forward into a massive pain. It didn't help that, at launch anyway, the game world of this version was extremely limited. This is the worst way you could play the good game of Minecraft, I would simply not play Minecraft if my phone was my only option for it.
This is a review of the earlier versions of pocket edition:
It's a pretty cool novelty to play minecraft on the phone. It is limited but it is its limited form that makes it feel a bit special to build something cool in it. Not to mention its portability makes it easy to show off those buildings to your friends.

This version of Minecraft came a very very long way to what is it today. Sit down and let me tell you a little story
Due to the less advanced nature of mobile devices back in the day the old MCPE was only apx 5-10%ish (Randomly slapped estimated number here) compared to the PC version.
Back then the difference where
1.) Nether wasn't accessible through a portal but rather through a "Reactor" but even then it's not the entire dimension itself rather just a big block of netherite
2.) Limited worlds meant limited resources as well
3.) Stone cutter that used to craft stone blocks only
4.) The oldest version of this game had only 3 inventory slots
5.) No cave system, less biome, blocks, materials etc
