I'm not sure why they made the game so creepy, it's actually a touching story. In fact the more I think about it, the more frustrated I get.
The horror genre has NOTHING to do with the story they're trying to tell. And the story they're trying to tell has NOTHING to do with your character or her absence. It's quite baffling.
They basically sabotage their own game by trying to subvert the horror/mystery genre, and as a player you're constantly distracted from the story of Sam and her parents, by trying to figure out a twist or source of evil that doesn't exist. Frustrating.

my recommended play order is bioshock 1, challenge room dlcs, bioshock 2, minervas den dlc, gone home, soma, the magic circle and finally Tacoma by fullbright (same studio that did gone home). You can, nay, must, skip bioshock infinite. only by playing these exact games in this exact order will you Understand exactly what this game did. this game did SO MUCH
