I don't like soulslikes...im not into edgy sadness, bugs arent that interesting to me and lord knows im impatient.

and yet I love this game. I saw it on gamepass after playing the prime trilogy and i thought a metroidvania huh.

and then i 114% completed it over the course of a week, every free moment dedicated to this Masterpiece.

It all clicked with the Mantislords...at 2 am on a saturday when i had exausted all available upgrades and died 100 times i realised "the combats like a dance..."

and it all clicked...it just clicked in a way a game hasnt ever clicked with me.

i understood what it wanted of me and what i hadnt been giving it.

Lovely game

Milktong isnt real <3

how the fuck do they sell this for $15 when they've got more going on in this game than they do in $70 ones

genuinely i hope the developer didn't screw themselves over selling the game at this price because holy shit i think this should've been like $40 minimum

planning to strive for that 112% completion but i got my first ending today and wow! what an absolute journey this game has been! although extremely punishing at times (i just suck at platforming), i enjoyed every single minute i spent with this game! the art style, music, gameplay and especially the world building are all top class! the only negative thing i can think of is that i had to do some extra digging and research in terms of lore hunting but it does not take away from the game at all. this has easily become my favorite game of all time! hard to believe it was created by a small indie team because it truly stands on equal footing with triple-a titles! excited to see what is in store for team cherry’s future! the knight is the cutest and best protagonist btw! i love them so much!

i stopped playing right before defeating the last boss because i didn't want the game to end. up to this day it's still one of my favorite games and if silksong ever drops i may think about finishing the main game. this game has so much depth and meaning, the gameplay is ridiculously fun and i enjoyed every second i spent playing it.

literally one of the best games ive ever played. please play hollow knight

One of the true contenders for the most a video game has ever been

I fear that I’m going to get flamed for saying this, but I thought that this was one of the most overrated games I’ve ever played. I know the game is beloved, and many have extolled its virtues. I’m going to offer a counterpart to this game’s well documented qualities.

Right from the beginning, the game seemed like it had second-tier audio and video quality, which surprised me. As a professional designer myself, I’m very sensitive to those kinds of shortcoming, and the game has many. The lead visual designer does not seem to understand or be able to apply principles of human perception effectively. There are a myriad of issues, from details that are unintentionally obscured, to all kinds of issues with depth perception, and issues with controlling and understanding foreground and background contrast principles. The end result is a myriad of “cheap” depths because of this, where the game demands you learn and memorize, because these design principles are inconsistently applied. Audio is underwhelming and also inconsistent, which also leads to “cheap” deaths when certain audio cues sound confusingly similar. Even worse, there are audio processing errors generating digital distortion in some areas, particularly the Crystal Caves. Controls also have a myriad of technical issues. The end result is a game that is way more difficult than it needs to be. Considering its accolades, I assumed this would be a much more polished experienced. The truth is that it’s a terribly inconsistent game. Certain aspects of game balance, like item and enemy attributes, are expertly well done. Most impressively, the scope and quality of the level design is staggering. Clearly an obsessive amount work went into this. But that level of effort or expertise isn’t evident in many other aspects of the game.

Lastly, the game has serious accessibility problems. It is the epitome of a “get good” game. Unfortunately for many people, we just can’t get that good. I was only able to get to 108 / 112%, and that took me over a hundred hours. I don’t see how I can do any better to see the real ending. Without going through my medical history, suffice to say, many individuals like myself can only move our hands with so much precision, and this gets worse for every human being as we age. This game has absolutely no accessibility settings. Not even a basic difficulty level. And even worse, completion has a major difficulty spike in the final few elements. Proper design should NEVER require the player to be young enough and free of complicating medical issues in order to see the true ending. The heavy difficulty spike content should be optional, with bonus content and lore.

To be clear, it is a good game. A very good game. But it’s not the great game many would have you believe. Does it have one of, if not the greatest metroidvania map and level design? Absolutely. But it lacks the cohesive balance of quality in its execution to be truly considered one of the greats.

Top metroidvania, è il preferito di Giosu ma Dani Perus non l'ha finito

minha nossa que mapa confuso da porra, fiquei 2 horas perdido sem saber pra onde ir, tankei nao

"Hollow Knight" is the cutest, "git gud" 2D platformer I've ever played. The graphics are beautiful, with the backgrounds being the best eye candy I've seem since "Dead Cells". The progressive unlocking of areas and items were borderline impossible, with me wandering off into a new area more times than not - usually paying for that curiosity with death. Speaking of in-game death, the game is so punishing in the Souls-like, 'die here, go back and get loot' mechanic that I have counted at least 4 times where I uninstalled the game after losing 4-figure amounts of Geo, only to reinstall it the next day purely to satiate my curiosity with where the game goes next.

I found the game just short of too minimalistic for my liking; I wasn't hoping for an Ubisoft-like checkbox 'quest list', but I needed a bit more visual assistance than simply putting icons on a map. The story was as evasive as I had to be during boss fights; there if you're looking for it, but super easy to miss if you're pre-occupied with exploring or trying to get back to your dead body for loot recollection.

I think what bothered me by the end of the game the most was the internal 'grind' for upgrades; the amount of times I had to double-triple-quadurple back to places I've been (albeit, was more OP than the previous times) went from quaint and airy to 'where is the nearest fast travel point' and 'is this upgrade REALLY worth it?'

I'll summarize the review with this: This is the best Metroidvania that I've completed from beginning to end, but I was overcome with joy not for the stories ending (got the bad ending), but for the ending of the story.

i have not touched godhome nor do i ever intend to - im not fucking with pantheon V. the sheer existence of pantheon V knocks HK down a half-star

HOLLOW KNIGHT: VOIDHEART EDITION - MY NEW FAVOURITE GAME

On the surface, Hollow Knight's premise is simple. A Metroidvania souls-like set in the hauntingly beautiful world of Hallownest, one which the player character - an unnamed knight hailing from a distant land - is tasked with exploring. Yet when put into practice Hollow Knight becomes so much more than that, as the sprawling in-game world and its various mysteries gradually unfold before the player.

For me, this game has it all. Engaging - yet it must be said, challenging - combat, a great sense of exploration, intriguing lore, tightly-designed bosses, secrets absolutely everywhere, a timeless art style and an absolutely gorgeous soundtrack.

Weirdly, I picked up this game a couple of times previously, played a few hours and then just bounced off of it. But this time I stuck with it and I am so glad I did.

To say too much about this game would genuinely ruin the experience, seriously just pick it up and play, you won't regret it.

One of, if not the best, games I have ever played - and I've been gaming for 20+ years. And it was only made by an incredibly small studio to boot.

A masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Demanding but tremendously good. Master piece

brilliant game with tons of content and great combat and bosses

Me faltan vidas para decir todo lo bueno de este juego

Hey gamers

For the first 75% of this game, I has having a blast. The soundtrack is beautiful, perfectly capturing a haunting yet wonderous tone. The art direction and character design are amazing. Gaining new abilities and feeling more confident in my combat abilities was a satisfying progression. Some of the boss fights were really fun.

However, I started enjoying it less and less these past few hours. The game becomes very repetitive and predictable, it takes ages to get from point A to point B, and, much like Bloodborne, I don't like stories that are kept so vague that it gives me nothing to attach myself to or hardly any motivation to push myself into the world. I think all I have left is a few bosses, and I can't beat any of them, even after several attempts. I routinely get hit by no fault of my own (projectiles spawning offscreen, attacks blending into the background, the controls, etc.), and I don't have the energy to push through and get them done. Maybe someday, but not now.

tao lindo. (fez me partir o telemovel)
