Everything about this game is just so well crafted.

From it's atmosphere, to gameplay, to weapons, etc.

I consider this the perfection of Id's (at the time) evolving FPS engine.

NOTE THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE REMASTER AND ALL ITS CAMPAIGNS NOT JUST QUAKE 1

Having played through every campaign in Quake 1's arsenal I have to say, its kinda a valley of Quality. Quake 1 proper and Dimension of the Machine are master classes in the genre and are probably some of my favorite FPS campaigns. Meanwhile Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity are pretty mediocre. There's also dimension of the past which is pretty good so I guess the remaster is more of a slanted valley than anything. Overall I'd say definitely check out the original campaign, Dimension of the Past, and Dimension of the Machine. If you're like me and like seeing the full evolution of a series I'd say also play the original 2 expansions but they're honestly not worth it. Still, everything in this collection is better than like everything involving Quake 2 so thats gotta count for something.

I have not done Call of the Machine as of the time of me writing this due to it being the newest Quake Campaign Chronologically.

7/10

The grunts and screams of Trent Reznor will be forever etched into my mind... oh yeah and the game is perfect too!!

Oh look, a weapon... AMBUSH!
Oh look, a switch... AMBUSH!
Oh look, a health pack... AMBUSH!
Oh look, the end of the level... AMBUSH!
Oh look, the start of a new level... AMBUSH!
