This is the first otome game ever! Is there anyone who stumbled upon the game without knowing that, I wonder.

Even if you read the manual, it is unclear whether asking for a certain saint's help will yield the results you wanted or not. Strange RNG in this game. That can make the game frustrating, especially when you're behind your rival by a lot. Also, I think due to the walking around (and there is no run button) it takes somewhat longer to do to things than is necessary, but I've also played Angelique Luminarise where all you do is press buttons like your average VN and missed being able to walk around, so win some lose some. Even if it's not as fast as can be and a little unclear, the gameplay loop can easily become addictive. (For me it was, at least.)

The love interests are all very nice, but I feel there weren't enough things to talk to them about. I'm sure that was due to a space or budget issue, since surely the devs would have wanted you to get to know them deeply. Because of this, my attachment to who I like is based on the art and designs - and if you look around, there's quite a bit of art! 90s shoujo fans can rejoice. I will also say the guys are all exactly what their designs tell you they are, with no surprises. This is both good and meh. Dating sims and other media where the goal is to make the viewer really love at least one character in the cast tend to be like that though.

The endings don't feel as angsty as they could have been either. You either stay with the man you confessed to but lose your right to the throne, or become queen and never be able to stay with the one you love. Really, I suppose that's good for someone who doesn't "love" or imagine the player character as loving any of them, but I can't imagine many people picked up this game and only cared about the continent-building while not wanting to see love bloom between the characters. So, the game has bit of a "desire vs. duty" thing going on, but it isn't dedicated enough to trying to break the player's heart for my tastes.

Overall, I think it's a fun and historically important game, very inventive and cute, but nothing insane. "This feels like inventory management but with men's feelings," I remember saying after having read everyone's fortune and sighing. It's a game where being petty and manipulative helps you get ahead in life. Maybe that was the moral of the story here. No, it's probably just me who played/understood the game like that.

PRO TIP: If Rosalia already has a character that really really loves her, it's no use trying to steal her man, or to ask that man to harm her continent (because most of the houses on her continent will be there thanks to him, and you may feel tempted to destroy them). Instead, focus on making sure no other man wants her, at least not badly. Multiple dudes can like you enough to bless your island and even harm Rosalia's without you asking them to even lift a finger, and when a man likes you and Rosalia asks him to cause harm upon your continent, it won't do as much damage. I hope this helps!

despite being the founder of its genre it is very different from the genres current state in a very engaging way. i found the art extremely charming, the love interests all have nice personalities that make one want to actually pursue them, which takes a surprising amount of effort too! and the rivalry feels more fun and challenging than most current otome "rivals", i found it extremely endearing and fun overall
